Hurling Discussion / Re: How is Henry Shefflin ?

Horrible Luck. Luckily with todays advancements in Science it can be sorted, Years ao you were a goner. Wish him all the best, will be a tough year. This is where the amateur ethos can be cruel, as it restricts giving 100% to recovery. Fingers crossed King Henry will be back in some capacity next summer.

Losing AI Managers/players saying they will be back stronger the next year! Actually when is the last time a losing AI group came back the following year or two to win an AI? Tipp in Hurling in 1989 and Cork in Football in 1989, Dublin in 1995!
Kerry ,Tyrone and  Armagh have all come back stronger from loses

These were not from AI Final losses they came back stronger from. all the teams (group of players) you have mentioned won on their first appearance.

GAA Discussion / Is there anybody out there?

With the hurling final being a shambles and the football being a down south affair have people fecked off to do something more interenting than write about GAA.

Have great respect for the man. Brought a great sence of vision and colour to the spoken radio commentary. But like all celebrities has often annoyed me with side-steps on controversial topics. Also hated that commentary to music he did a few years ago. Really weakened his stock! Still a legend, and unlike Marty M. never shows bias to the weaker, popular or home county. LIVING LEGEND

Very little interest in the final here in Mayo. Usually at work, the pub, on the street there is small talk of tactics and formations etc, even when the county is not involved, but nothing. Many do not even have even a preference as to who they would like to win.

What is the interest like in Kerry and Cork?

Is there a scramble for tickets?

Said a few weeks back that both the Hurling and Football AIs would be non events competitive wise and so far have be proven correct in the hurling. Kerry have smuthered Cork in Croker the last couple of years and i see no difference this year.

Forgot earlier, Ref Terrible! Talk about trying to balance out a game with one sided decisions!

Well done to Kilkenny today. Class Outfit. Sad day again for hurling, with one of the big two cruising to a 30th AI. Don't get me wrong but the hurling draw setup has amounted to farce this year and some how managed to let average teams such as Wexford and Limerick progress further than they really merited. Ironically both teams ended up making the winning of Liam easier for KK. This is no fault of Kilkenny, but they really won this years AI in second gear. As a mayo man hurling is as natural to me as Australian Rules football. They are great strides being made in the county but our County would be hammered by an average Kilkenny intermediate club team. Can we get rid of the title of AI as there are really only 8 teams who compete? Quarter Irelands would be a better title. Roll on 2008......wonder who will be in the final, hard one that!

Just wondering did the Spillane brothers - Pat, Mick and Tom all win allstars? There's a chance for a new thread famous Brothers to represent their county!

Really, when you are picking a players in a cathegory like this there are rules to follow:

You can't pick some one who was at the tail end of their career......Mickey Linden
You can't pick some one who is at the begining of their career.......Ciaran Donaghy
You are looking for consistency over a period of 5 years or more......Anthony Tohill
You are looking for a player who did not go missing in big games.....Peter Canavan
You are looking at a player who was a managers dream, no injuries, no sendings off, no stupid press interviews........James Nallen
You are looking for a player who was maybe not on the best team, but always turned up......Declan Browne[/b][/i]

Really you could have 3 teams one for every five years.

Sweet jesus the standard of lunacy on this board just hit an all time high. Demonstrate one big game canavan went missing in, and ill come over and wash your car.

No point in laying all those rules down, the competition that inspired this thread doesn't have those rules. At the end of the day it is down to individuals opinions, some people won't play lads out of position (the way the all stars used to be done) and some will,(the way that they are now).

I also agree with Puckoon, you are well wide of the mark with your comments about Canavan, ask someone from Kerry, Armagh or Dublin (to think of just a few games off the top of the head)

Feck Sake Louth Exile and Puckoon what part of NOT do you NOT understand. I gave Canavan as an example of some one who DID NOT go missing in big games. JESUS ???

The reality is as Gnevin put it, the grounds around the country are white elephants. How can anybody with a level of business sence plough money into grounds that are used once or twice a year. This is not the 25 game a year premiership we a talking about. Look the Gaa are struggling to feed the monster called Croke park for 5 of the 12 months!
