Big shops are spread across Asda/Lidl but we would buy fish, meat and veg local where possible. Convenience is everything for the world we live in unfortunately and that's the way it will be.

I read somewhere that the turnover rate in Amazon warehouses is so high that in a couple of years everyone in the US qualified to work for them will already have done and have quit.

A serious business problem now and a great example of roost.

Amazon may have to replace staff with robots if they can't convince Bezos to ease up. Then the mayhem really starts.

What is it we are doing with all the "free time" we've gained from technology.

Yeah we use the local butchers, he's a neighbour so hard to avoid him lol but a good lad all the same, still prefer my steaks from M&S though! Tesco gets a big hit as the local green grocers closed as like a lot of places completely squeezed out by the big retailers, Lidil sometimes when I can be bothered but Tesco, like Amazon have it down to a T with their selections and offers

Henderson/spar/euro spar must be doing rightly as they virtually own the corner shop market, thankfully at the minute we don't have the shops they have in the UK, mini markets types

I'm not so sure of that one.  The butcher's and bakers in town seem to do a decent trade and I cant see that changing.  There isnt even a comparison in terms of their high quality and that of the supermarket equivalent.

Find this argument pretty weak. If no one purchased from Amazon and instead purchased from their local providers, then local business would be thriving. If people chose to use Taxi's rather than Uber's then Taxi driver would be thriving.

The reality is that consumers like us are chasing lower prices - that's why the local businesses are struggling. And anyone who feels strongly enough about this, can be a champion by bucking the trend.

I'm not so sure of that one.  The butcher's and bakers in town seem to do a decent trade and I cant see that changing.  There isnt even a comparison in terms of their high quality and that of the supermarket equivalent.

The local business has a serious challenge to maintain quality and the right price point as they're not doing high volume sales. Generally one of those things has to give.

Uber's product makes it hard to beat before you even get to their price point. We have a shared family account and the young fella is in Paris with mates at the minute and he's not impressed that I can see him coming home at 6am! I gave him the option of paying for his own taxis...
