But if your saying, you get home venue unless your home ground isn't big enough then that does impact sporting integrity as it negatively impacts smaller counties, who are already up against it.

I'm with David.

I'd have even less of an issue if you said you can't have this ground or that ground at all at a certain stage rather than what some are calling for you can't have your choice of ground when playing certain teams whereas everyone else can have their home ground at all times

"smaller" counties like Antrim, Kildare or Louth who have about a million people between them?
The likes of Leitrim, Fermanagh and Carlow have perfectly serviceable grounds.
Counties have periods whereby their main county ground is out of action and alternative grounds are used. Armagh people should be aware of this, seeing how they made an absolute balls of their own county ground redevelopment and were displaced for almost a decade.

Armagh displaced themselves to Clones, when required, which did not exclude anyone. All that is needed is for Louth to behave in a similar responsible way.

Armagh played league games and the like in Cross' and sometimes Carrickcuppen and used Clones for the Ulster championship where the crowds were bigger. Cross was used for qualifiers, like the one where we beat Donegal. This defeat brought Jimmy McGuinness into DOnegal management, perhaps we should have let them win that day!

Cross, Clann Na Gael.

davitt park far from fit for a county ground
Wash your mouth out with a bar of soap...

No, you're correct. Only for a certain DUP minister about 6-7 years ago we would have, stopped the grant at the final hurdle (the signing cheque stage)

Quote from: SaffronSports on June 03, 2026, 07:11:02 PMGAA need to fix the season ticket rule. Should be for home games only or limited to whatever the lowest capacity county ground is.
Should be a rule that you've a ground fit for purpose or forfeit home advantage. We want to encourage people to go to games not the opposite.

They are forfeiting home advantage though. The game is in Monaghan. Or are you saying the game should be in Armagh???
Then forfeit to a ground that can hold more than 6,000...

Really don't get the noise around the venue, Louth played their NFL games in Inniskeen, their call so we role with it.  It's a field with posts at either end, if you're good enough the venue will hardly matter.

We are in the sharp end of the biggest sports tournament in the country. I understand the temporary nature of the venue, but there needs to be a plan B for one of your biggest games ever. A club ground in a different county that can't hold a quarter of your own fans is so small time it hurts.

Yes and no.

I got annoyed by Kildare's antics a few years ago.

But these days every time I see a half full county ground, or a quarter full Croke, I think to myself that full houses create a different and better buzz, no matter how small those houses are.

Some people miss out. That's okay. It honestly not end of the world.

Rossfan

Kildare have no venue problems these days as they have little support!
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

If I was a Louth clubman who supported them through thin and thinner, I don't think I would be quite as blaze about missing a game of this nature. Move it to Newry, Cavan or even Clones.

I wonder if the Louth county board were on a cut of the gate would they be playing in a random club venue in the arse of Monaghan

Now you're talking, we'd be having a different conversation. Not sure what the % are with Championship football?. Do Leinster Council take it all or a % or Does Croke Park get it...Not sure what the cut is but you're right it Louth were getting the gate they'd have it in Newry

My understanding is at the end of the year they divvy up all the gate receipts to all the counties, as opposed to a % of your gates.

So it makes no odds to Louth how many punters they get

Would be next to impossible to divide up double headers for example.
