Dingles club run really didnt help them. Paul Geaneys fairytale ended in disaster.

Only on the bench to pick up the cup it appears. A fit Brosnan would have been a better option. Given Geaney's age and injury issues that's him surely done with Kerry now.

Diarmuid O'Connor out proved to big loss and for the strength in depth Kerry meant to have they really struggled to get any impact from their subs introduced.

Main downfall was not focusing on the main strengths of Mayo and trying to curb them.  They had the look of a team that thought midfield will be won and the Clifford's,Sean O'Shea will do the rest.

Mayo gave their game plan away against Louth, and it amazes me that Kerry ignored the clues.  Louth sauntered into tackles and lost the ball continuously in the middle third.  I was sure Kerry would kick it long, but they made the same mistakes Mayo did.

Mayo's other obvious tactic was to go for two pointers and Kerry weren't able to adjust to that on the day.

And their substitutions were a mess - O'Sullivan in for O'Connor (big loss) and shipped off again at halftime?  Geaney on the bench but not used- what was the point of that? 
Introduced Evans too early, needed his legs with 15 to go.  Brought off a midfielder when they needed power around the middle?

All very strange. Jack O'Connor has done it all, but didn't seem a good day yesterday for the Kerry sideline.

It was a poor day at the office by Kerry management. Jack O'Connor said the other day he was no longer the manager but observer nowadays.  As you said Mayo showed their hand against Louth but it doesn't appear much if any observing of that game was done by Kerry at all.

It was a bit of shotgun approach on the subs and it made no sense to start Tom O'Sullivan when he had only 40 minutes of championship football under his belt against Clare back in April.

Getting Paul Geaney onto the match day 26 and David Clifford not wear number 13 was more important things to address.

Jack OConnor managed Kerry in 2004 and 2006 when they hammered Mayo in the All Ireland. He went into the Mayo dressingroom in 2004 and told the Mayo players that Kerry needed the all Ireland more than them.

Maybe he was expecting a repeat. Andy Moran asked a room full of journalists who thought Mayo would win and only 1 did.
Kerry couldn't deal with Mayo's workrate.

Did that really happen?

It was in the Irish Times at the time. Kerry had lost the 2002 final.

The Kerry fans * will feel theyve left 3 finals behind them and maybe Jack has spoiled a generation they hoped could win back ground lost to Dubs.

They will regroup and learn, may well be here next year discussing the 40th.

*if that Jacko dressing room storys true wouldnt surprise because they have an entitlement complex of sorts. Like theyll die of dehydration if they dont drink from the cup

To stand on the summit of Irish sport after 11 final heartbreaks is a masterclass in resilience. You have proven that no matter how long or tough the road, dedication and heart will always prevail.

We also want to pass on a sincere word of thanks. When we played the Tailteann Final in Croke Park two weeks ago just before your semi final, your supporters stepped up and joined as Wicklow's 16th man and cheered us on every step of the way, a gesture of true GAA sportsmanship that we won't forget.

A special word to our own County Treasurer, Larry Howard, a proud Mayo man through and through. God only knows when we will actually see him back in Wicklow again, but we know he'll be celebrating every second of it!

Enjoy bringing the Sam Maguire home to the West.

Agree thought McNally was excellent. To be critical he let the steps go abit much and Beirne got away with a double bounce, evened out though with Kerry defenders getting lucky a few times coming out and grabbing the Mayo forward tackling them

The Mayo goal was brilliant, however it all began with ROD doing a graceful Fred Astaire impersonation.

The foul on ROD which led to the missed 2 pointer: I thought it should have been a black card.  The Kerry defender simply tackled him down.

Very happy for Mayo.  I thought they had Kerry "on the ropes' twice in the second half and let them off the hook both times.  Though the second time the goal that went off the crossbar was rotten luck.

If Clifford had made that 2 pointer, with 2 minutes left, to tie it we might be lamenting another Mayo near miss.

tbh this is what troubles me about the new rules.  Mayo were clearly the better team, yet a bad bounce here or a shot there and the better team might not have won today.  Yes it is very entertaining under the new rules, however it still has a Roller Derby feel to it.  But if the team we want to win does win then it's all good!  Right?

The games won and lost over the 70 plus minutes, they all have the same opportunities to win or lose the game, the missed calls or bad decision making can seem more important at the end of a game but the best team, is the team with the most points... Mayo would give up multiple attempts at playing well in finals and losing to winning ugly.

Kerry had this game rapped up after 15 odd minutes, then stopped doing what was working for them, Mayo just kept plugging away and Kerry to an extent allowed them back in..

But the two pointers mean you have to keep on top all the game now

Games can really swing now though. Momentum changes are much different than before. If Kerry had even got one of those two pointers at the end they had momentum and mayo lose. The "down the stretch" part is absolutely critical. Not every score is equal or every tackle is equal etc.

The biggest triumph for mayo yesterday was being so far behind and not going into the mindset of here we go again and capitulating. Mayo obviously produce very good footballers regularly but Andy Moran to me has done as good a job as has ever been seen. The belief he instilled in that team compared to the fragility you would normally associate with mayo is phenomenal .

Could the fairytale stories of Mayo and Wicklow winning inspire other counties?

Could the likes of your Clares Tipperarys Wexfords be inspired by this or will hurling always reign supreme?

Tyrone should definitely be aiming to win an all Ireland in the next 3 years.

Will McGeeney and McGuinness change their style of play?.... looks like they have no alternative.

We have entering a decade where All Ireland titles should be shared among a handful of counties. Last ten years Dublin won the All Ireland 7 times, Kerry 2, Tyrone 1.  The next ten years could well be shared out among 4 or 5 counties. 

I said that two years ago before any new rules was brought in.

Armagh,Kerry,Mayo so far and a 4th or 5th different county should win the All-Ireland in the next 7 years.
