Bobby McCaul should have had a 45 5 mins before full time and also got an extremely harsh free given against him with 2 mins to go for a light push

It was a 45 alright but the push was fairly obvious. A clear score from Paul Cassidy was waved wide in the second half too. Officiating was messy in general.

What a finish
Derry thought they had it won  10 points up and took the foot off the gas, can't do that anymore with the 2 pointers. First half was to easy for them, now theyve been  tested.
you've only had enough to drink when you cant hold onto the ground

Ref give Monaghan a free where McCloskey was been fouled then give the same free to Monaghan 5 sec later.

DaleCooper

Nice moment for JMcC as hes nearing the end at this level.

Captain Obvious

Some Derry people are on the field they think it's all over...

Missing the game due to a family commitment. A great ending for the neutral. From a Derry perspective it has all been utterly unnecessary. Far too many wides, took the foot off the gas with 10mins to go. Only had to hold it for 15 more seconds and it was over but slip then give away a 2 pointer opportunity.

If they lose it now it will take a hell of a lot to pick these lads back up.

Sideline used to be worth 1.

I presumed that rule has changed and it wasn't an officiating error.

Dag Dog

What's the rule about stopping the clock for a sideline?

armaghniac

Had some of the crowd left, there seems a lot of seats free? Shades of Armagh v Fermanagh 1993.

Monaghan have had some great old warriors, the likes of Beggan and McCarron.

Sideline was 2 last year provided they were outside the 21

According to Google AI...

No, under the new 2026 GAA rules, a two-pointer cannot be scored directly from a sideline ball. A two-point score is only awarded for a kick from play or a free kick taken on or outside the 40m arc. Sideline kicks and '45's are worth one point, regardless of where they are taken.

Key 2026 Scoring Rules:Two-Point Requirements: The ball must be kicked from play or a free with a foot on or outside the 40m arc and go directly over the bar.

Touch Rule: A defensive touch in flight does not cancel a two-pointer, but an attacking touch reduces it to one point.

Exceptions: Sideline balls, '45s, and placed balls taken from within the arc do not qualify for two points.

Was not anymore. Constant chopping and changing of the rules hence the confusion.

screenexile

That's a mess lads how has that not been sorted??

screenexile

That wasn't off the ground at all what's the ref at?

DaleCooper

Strange McCarron wouldnt hit that instead of Beggan given he slotted over a far more difficult one. Beggan wide.
