You could argue he was in posession. He flicked it over him and was running onto it again.

Another silly GAA rule.

A black card if there was ever a black card. Quaid knew what he was at and cleaned him out of it.

Gamewould have changed for sure if Quaid was gone and down to 14.

But Limerick do what Limerick do.

Clare got tired last 10 minutes and didnt have much impact off the bench. Hegarty deservedly MOM as Clare coudnt contain him in the send half. Fair play to Clare though for putting up a great battle, this Limerick team are not easily bet.
The Black card rule needs attention for sure.

Clare just ran out of petrol taking all those hits.

The penalty

Ok there is only one out, that it was just a penalty inside the big square, now watching on tv it was outside the box, the ref had his view and IF he said penalty tackled and fouled yellow all good..

But from my perspective I'm thinking denying goal scoring opportunity black card penalty, and there would not be anyone complaining. So I haven't heard the reason given or spun.

Be interesting to hear the pundits tonight, that said Limerick I think would have found a way and Clare just didn't start second half the same way!

At some point along the way, Limerick's conveyor belt of talent slowed down and then stalled. The players in their early 20s who had been pushing the established starters for years had themselves become familiar names. They weren't new, they were circling the team in a holding pattern, waiting for clearance to land.
On Sunday in Páirc Uí Chaoimh, Limerick's lack of depth was badly exposed. When they needed fresh legs in the final quarter Tom Morrissey and Darragh O'Donovan – hugely experienced veterans of many campaigns – were sprung from the bench.
Which version of them were we going to see? It has been clear since the beginning of the league that Limerick no longer regard Morrissey as a starter and when he came on against Cork, he couldn't influence the game. O'Donovan made a difference, though, and in Cian Lynch's absence, he will surely start against Clare on Sunday.
But when they wanted to make a second change in their attack they brought on Colin Coughlan at wing back and pushed Kyle Hayes into the half-forward line. Donnacha Ó Dálaigh, who made his league debut three years ago, was left on the bench, and so was Hugh Flanagan, who was tried in the forwards during this year's league.

So, if I hop the ball on the stick, do I meet the criteria or because I'm not in 'possession' of the ball it's just a yellow no penalty and no denying of a goal scoring opportunity?

I know both team's shooting was poor, yet for the incredible intensity it was a classic championship game.

I believe five Clare starters played on the 2013 team which defeated Limerick.  They can be proud of their great performance today.

It was a shame about the controversy. I thought it was more important how the referee let the teams play.  Didn't kill the game with his whistle.  I thought it was the game of the year.
