In terms of the most talented footballer id definitely say Tohill, Mc Keever was the best at what he did, but cornerbacks dont need much footballing ability, they can go whole matches without kicking the ball, maybe touching it 3 times and have a good game. So for that reason i wouldnt vote a corner back as the 'best footballer'. When Mc Keever did play out the field for dungiven he was very good though. Fergal Doc and Paddy Bradley will be in this list in 15 years time as well, and Bradley will get more votes than Brolly.

Have no Bellaghy posters been on complaining that the most successful team in Derry Club History have no names on the list.

Surely Damian Cassidy deserves a mention. The best footballer that Bellaghy ever produced and we have produced a few!

Definitely need Spoofer on that list....he was close to being done in the early 90s when yiz won the big one but he was one of the most naturally talented footballers ever to come of Ulster never mind Derry.

Definetly. Also playing for your country and winning an All Star, both while still at school.... unbelievable.

and what about the 2 crucial points he hit - 1 in semi and other in final
he def should have started the final.... anyway

in the 1980s he was the best player in ireland for at least 4 years (1984 to 1987) BY A MILE

Here are the games that McKeever would have marked Canavan... Derry 6 Tyrone 2! Explain how it is a myth again? Oh and you can add an Ulster Club Final that Dungiven won against Errigal Ciaran to that as well thanks ;)

Canavan wasnt playing that day, his ankle was still hanging off post Meath. Are the rest of the stats as reliable? :P

Well it appears to be missing the spring 1996 game in the Ulster semi-final when Tyrone beat Derry by 5 points in Omagh and Canavan scored a goal.  McKeever definitely was marking him then too.

Yes, but had he passed his O Levels, he would have achieved those two things whilst at the Polytechnic.

He did both while 17 didn't he?

Both achieved in 1984, would have been 19 by the time he got his hands on the All-Star.

Still impressive achievements both, just not as impressive as claimed.

Birthday is november, so it depends when the allstars were handed out - touch and go.  But he was definitely 18 when he played for Ireland, as I said in this thread way back at the start, he dragged derry to the '87 Ulster on his own imo.  He was brilliant that year.
