He has a fair point. I'm not saying that Ferguson isn't a great manager but there is no doubt money has been the defining factor in United's success. If he was in charge of Blackburn Rovers or QPR over the same period we would be saying he's just a pretty good manager.

I would imagine the money is about 75% and 25% down to Ferguson.

He was manager of Aberdeen & have you seen any team get near to Celitic,Rangers in Scotland since he left? 25% my ass.. clearly some won't realise how good Fergie is until he's gone & even then bitterness won't allowed them to admit it.

Ferguson has proved over and over again that he is a top class manager. He's had 4 or 5 different teams at this stage I'd say. The Bruce Team, the Cantona Team, the Keane Team, the Scholes Team and the Rooney Team. And it's not all money, he's had a fair few duds in his time, but he is phenomonal at getting United to work hard, and keep their appetite.

I think he also learned a lesson in Europe as well. He used to be afraid to play in Europe, thinking there was some magic formula. Since he realised his team was better than most, he's been a lot more confident in Europe and seen a lot more success.

It's not like he took them from the bottom of the league to win it! When he took them over they had just finished 2nd in the league . . . like I said he is a great manager no doubt but the money factor relating to his success is huge and cannot be underestimated.

Unlike Mourinho who has won the big prize on a fairly modest budget!

Thats not on there but I worked it from 2 tables thats are there 1992-2011 and 2003-2011, subtract one from another and you get 1992-2003. Sad or what

Without info on wages, you're really only getting half the picture here.

At the end of the day alot of teams are spending huge amounts these days, and alot of the money being spent has no correlation between these teams recent achievement on the pitch.  United didn't buy the Premier League in 1993, but since then they have used their success on the field to generate more money (through sponsorship, prizemoney, merchandising etc) which they have rightfully spent on new players among other things, a sort of natural progression.  When you see the figures that have been spent over the years and you see the amounts the Liverpools, Chelseas and Citys have spent then it is clear that these clubs are simply trying to buy success.  The fat Spanish waiter spent some serious money in his time at Anfield with little to show for it.
