Also, failed to get promoted from Division 2,   failed despite a favourable draw to get to an Ulster Final and the only championship win was a hard fought victory against Antrim. I would not even fancy our chances in the Tailtean Cup.

100%. I'd say we should prioritise getting the young lads in during the league, over promotion. I was holding out the hope that the older lads could rediscover their form during the championship but its pretty clear now that a rebuild is needed.

Too slow in attack and with kick outs. No fight in that side either

Getting cleaned out on KOs in the first half looks to me like a lack of proper preparation and on the management.  It's one of the things that are predictable.  If plan A isn't working, move to plan B or C.  We stuck with plan A.

The problem with that cunning plan is that the initial priority is ensuring that you play in Sam Maguire, rather than tailteann cup. So you play your strongest team. Unfortunately limited room for experimentation in div 2.

And that will be the same next year in what will be an absolutely cut-throat div 2.

I can see us being relegated next year, but reaching the final of the Tailteann cup.

No question that div 2 is not straightforward, but if we have a core of 10 or so experienced players, I think we can survive div 2 and still blood 6 or 7 of the younger lads. In theory we should get stronger as the league goes on. Definitely a balancing act, but significant change is needed.

Derry need a new captain. Let Glass do his thing. Who should be it? I can't see any leaders. I'd say Rodgers is gone.

We desperately need a new forwards coach

I still think Rodgers has a year or two left in full back. For me McEvoy has to be 6, and he would also make a good captain. He's young but a great head on his shoulders.

Have the forwards been that bad this year? Murray and Loughlin have taken the burden off McGuigan for scores unfortunately he's not been his old self. Cassidy has been hot and cold then the new lads to the panel off the bench have looked promising when they've got the chance

doh827

I think it's more the attacking setup. We rely too heavily on individual quality and when we attack on the counter we're just way too slow

I hear we're not training hard enough.

Also think we would really benefit bringing a psychologist in the hear what the limerick players say about Caroline Currid and they success they've had with her compared to without her and it speeks for itself. I think alot of our problems is mental more than tactical.

Mario

I wouldn't be as critical as some. We did well to make a game of it out of such a poor kickout return. You are never going to win a game losing all your own lockouts and letting the opposition get theirs away every time.

We defended well and turned them over a lot, we were clinical in the first half every time we attacked.

The kickouts are a tactical point that can be fixed. Still think there is a good team there especially with the addition of Sargent
