Cian Connolly who starred for Oran on their run to the junior Connacht final last November, losing to the eventual AI champions.
Eh?

Whoops, not the first time I've confused the two - I was thinking of Michael Gunning for Oran and a minor last year (is he overage this year, actually?) and Cian Connolly is the Ros Gaels U21 corner forward from last year's team. Out-played Smith and Compton against Dublin in the final to boot.

They don't look alike, yes,yes and not really.

I never said confusing the two had anything to do with looks, did I?

Compton had a quiet(er) game - particularly after he was brought out to the middle in the second half - while Donie's totals were helped by being the main free-taker. I felt Connolly created more than either against Dublin and caused them more trouble from play, he showed up well on the biggest stage. Compton and Smith had the better overall campaigns.

No Munster thread but

Waterford are due to play Tipp next Wednesday night. Their first and only trial game is on tomorrow at 4pm, could be rough for them on Wednesday!Shambles

Zulu

Is that true? Football in Waterford is in trouble anyway and could quickly go the way of football in Kilkenny.

ballinaman

Yep Zulu,

Have a friend close to the football ground down in Waterford. Shocking.

Hear that Sligo's U-21 preparation has again been hampered by the senior management. My mild optimism has been curbed....

Indeed that was the year we surrendered a 9 point lead to Cork in the second half of the AI semi final.
While teams should be able to shut up shop enough to hold onto a 9 point lead in the 2nd half of a game, truth be told Cork deserved to win that game.
As I watched the game and even as we went that far in front - the way the play had been going I had a sneaking feeling they would come back.

Cork may have deserved to win it but Cork football teams don't always win games they should. Sadly this game provides another chapter in the long, dishonourable book, 'Sideline Management Disasters in Galway GAA".

Galway forwards gave an exhibition of point scoring. Next weekend will be much tougher though.

Did galway not beat raging favs Cork in the 2011 aisf before pasting cavan in th
e final?

Rossfan

Are you mixing up your minors and U21s ?
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

galwayman

I was talking about the minors of 2010 not the u21s of 2011

Looks like Mayo will have an uphill battle next weekend. Galway have the game under them and it was a quite comprehensive victory for them in the end. On the otherhand, maybe Sligo were just brutal and any county with any sort of a good system would have beaten them by that amount. It will be a difficult game next weekend for Mayo nonetheless.
