Looks like Mayo will have an uphill battle next weekend. Galway have the game under them and it was a quite comprehensive victory for them in the end. On the otherhand, maybe Sligo were just brutal and any county with any sort of a good system would have beaten them by that amount. It will be a difficult game next weekend for Mayo nonetheless.

Reckon it will be tight despite the big win today. Galway were very good but Sligo were very poor to be honest. Thomas Flynn and Peadar O'Griofa are big losses for Galway. They didn't need them today but on another day they might. The game might bring on Galway a little but then again they only have a 5 day break until the next game so not so great if any of them are nursing knocks after today.

I was talking about the minors of 2010 not the u21s of 2011
Tá brón orm.

I d be inclined to agree with you regarding Mayo s chances. After the minor and U21 efforts the last couple of years you d have to be pessimistic. There were loads of footballers on those teams but we managed to mess up.

There are loads of footballers in this Mayo U21 squad as well - or are they? If they re up to it you d expect Micheál Forde and Kirby to have got a bit of senior time so we ll see.  Maybe these guys will get more of a look- in when the U21 concludes. Also probably our best defender - Swanee O Hora - was told to take a year out (u21 next year again).

It has the makings of a very interesting game on Saturday alright. The loss of Flynn & O'Curraoin is huge for us at this level though.
In saying that 3 of the subs that we brought on today - Burke, Rabbitte and Maughan - are not exactly bad lads to have in reserve!

Nothing can be read into today's game. Sligo were dreadful. I would say Ros or Mayo would have put up big scores against them as well.

Syferus

Tough on Galway having to play again five days later, it may decide the game if it's a tight one.

Shocking display i turned off the radio with 10 mins left - well done galway, for us the drought continues
I used to be indecisive but now I'm not too sure.

I had alluded to this elsewhere but I wasn't optimistic on what I'd heard about the preparations for this panel. Still - didn't expect this trouncing. There was little between these sides at minor in Salthill and Galway were missing one or two of their better players. Huge problemss in Sligo GAA illustrated by how this side regressed in 3 years. Galway probably improved to be fair to them.

We run our U-21 club championship in late autumn/early winter as an U-20 championship. One of the reasons was to assist the county U-20 management with picking of players. For whatever reasons lots of guys who were the best players in the county A final weren't on the field yesterday. I think 2 in total that played in that game played yesterday (Cawley & Murphy). 4 of the side that won the B championship started.

Anyway - well done Galway.

Huge problems at underage in Sligo. Clubs with big populations not represented on the panel like Shamrock Gaels, Drumcliffe Rosses Point, Ballymote, Molaise Gaels, Ballisodare, Owenmore Gaels, Easkey, Enniscrone. Eastern Harps with a massive area and population with 1 panel member.
Drumcliffe won the under 20B and had no representation and beat Curry in the final who had 4 starters and 1 sub.
West and East of the county had 1 and 4 members respectively on the panel. Soccer is gradually taking over - county board need to sort it out or results like yesterdays will become the norm.

Yes - of course Drumcliffe won that replay.

The county board as presently constituted won't sort anything out and unless there's a major overhaul of the thinking it won't happen in future either. The new Development Officer looks like he is making a good start but his predecessor did nothing to assist clubs over 5 years. Several clubs out there badly need assistance and the county board is failing them and the county by turning a blind eye continually. What's the point in sending top coaches into Summerhill and Attractas so they get to schools finals but Ballisodare GAA club are practically folded up and many clubs in west Sligo going that way too. Why let a ridiculous hurling row poison 3 or 4 clubs and contribute to destroying their football clubs? Step in and take action - don't play politics all the fcukin time!

It sickens me to say the above but it's all true. When I got involved in running my club a decade or more ago I thought clubs could get help from the county board. I was dead wrong about that!

On another thread it was asked about a McDonnell lad that is a minor for Sligo but is also on the senior panel. However, I see he didnt make the starting team for the Sligo U21's. How is that?

Think he came on as a sub.

It's crazy. He is a really good player but should be nowhere near the senior panel yet. Walsh doesn't like releasing any of the U21 players to the U21 management even if they are only subs so the U21 management wouldn't have seen a lot of him. County minors had a game Saturday v. Leitrim - not sure if he played in that?

ross4life

Almost a repeat scoreline in 2011 Sligo 0-7 Galway 2-20. That Galway side as we all know went on to win the AI will history repeat itself? It's going to take a top side to defeat this Galway side in Connacht now. Anywho i'm looking forward to our double header with our lovely Leitrim neighbours this Saturday in the home of the All Ireland champions  :)
The key to success is to be consistently competitive -- if you bang on the door often it will open

Syferus

Wil CO'C start Saturday? He'd go a long way to helping Mayo do some serious damage against Galway.
