5 Sams the difference is unbelievable in the two different types of games from then and now. I know what I would rather go and watch. They all were tough men on both sides who give it their all without any questions asked

I have to say, watching it last night it wasn't as good a game as I'd recalled.
The second Meath v Kildare game in '97 was a much higher standard.
If you were any use you'd be playing.

Just caught the 2nd half last night. Was a very good game alright but not sure I'd go into "best game ever" territory. Think there have been many games at least as good over the past 20 years.

At the time it probably had a bigger impact but looking back it doesn't seem like anything majorly revolutionary. Just a very good game of football on a perfect sunny day.

Thats always the way however when you look back on things - we always think in later years that things were not as good as we thought back then.  Everything is relative however and when that game took place it was a huge affair - Derry were generally considered as sure things for the All Ireland and when Down won that game, the whole county knew we would win Sam.

Mr Coleman was despised by Harry Chivers (CB chairman) Patsy Mulholland (Sec) and Jim Mc Guigan RIP (Treasurer), and others in the CB, and they simply took the first chance they got to gut him

naw, Shivers then. Bernie Mullan will have been involved then too. Too many north Derry men maybe ;-). How in unner a buck did those hallions think it fit to sack Eamonn while we were still AI champs (Sep 1994)? Incredible, absolutely incredible

But you know what, our clubs were more than happy with it, the same CB was returned unopposed at the next AGM. SE you mention Gribben, he has to get a special mention to, Harry Gribben (another CB man ), was apparently his friend at one point. He was with Coleman when he won minor All Ireland with Derry and then went to the U21 final as well as the sen win in 93. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that

in summary, it really must go down as one of the worst / most ludicrous decisions made by a CB in any county
