The PC and the  PSNI  have  really opened up a can of worms for themselves, allowing this  march.

The PC banned Garvaghy parade for 28 years. Now they just  look weak and spineless.  It's sets a precedent where the OO could now contest every contentious parade through  the courts. They will probably be replaced. With what, who knows?

The PSNI will HAVE  to go after MON, MLMD etc, otherwise it sets a  precedent where  both sides will  see that blocking a road is the way to go. I'm not saying the GR residents were wrong, I'm fully with them , but from a law POV,  the PSNI  have gave themselves an impossible job going forward dealing with such issues.

For example, let's say the Gaza march is granted next year. No  doubt  unionists will block the towpath in Scarva, unless the PSNI  have been  seen to have dealt harshly with MON and others, to set a deterrent

Unionists are wanting the residents removed to facilitate their march , and MON dealt with.  The PSNI and the courts have to tread  carefully with both , knowing where it  could lead (either side pulling Stormont, SF removing support for the police etc).  This is bigger than just the Garvaghy march now

So  as I said , this is all Down to the PC/PSNI allowing the march to go ahead. Chaos ahead.

Don't be fooled by Orangeism. It's not what it once was. They come out in big numbers for the 12th and some of the other big parades but the day to day, week to week stuff, half them don't bother their holes with the lodge meetings.

The bands are going strong but it's still a similar story there - they all love the 12th and the build up to that, but half them are crying out for new members half the year because so many of their members only commit to the big days out.

Sounds about right. They parade up our road (where I'm from, a mixed area) every year. Our ones have always just passed no remarks and let them tear away. The parade has dwindled and got smaller each year.

The sight of them 35 ones trying to march is pretty pathetic tbh. They are pawns in Lockhart and bryson's game (and whoever is behind them) and they don't even realise it.

I wonder if the Portadown lodge  were eg. offered a "one and done' deal , and we're considering it... Would  they be under pressure not to take it , as it would look as though not only the  Portadown lodge were  caving in , but unionism as a whole ?

I think  the longer they  sit on the hill , the  less support they will have , even from their own people.

I'd say all they think of is Portadown District. They'll be thinking it'll look bad on them (but for everybody else not really) not getting down the road.


But they need to look at the bigger picture. They are doing more damage to smaller rural lodges and parades in places like Newtownbutler, Bellaghy, Dungiven, Pomeroy and Ballycastle etc.


But I'd say they're not thinking of that. Maybe their fellow brethern should remind them?
