England has no playmakers because as kids these internationals have been trained to death in quads, the training is regimented to the n'th degree and they dont get to express themselves with the ball, ever.

Capello took the single worst squad England has ever taken to a WC finals and said they were going to win it, he did a very, very poor job and now his fate hangs in the balance and this after they gave him a fat extension.

The players were simply not god enough, Terry had the culture on the team wrecked and Rooney is either carrying an injury or he didnt want to be there because to say he ws inept would be doing him a favour.

I never ever see any other Championship manger being interviewd on sky on such a regular basis like our Roy is.
They know they are always going to get a reaction out of him, they are using him and if anything are making a tool out of him by asking the questions they know he will always react too.

Roy would be better served ignoring these reporters than always having to express his opinion and have most of Britian laugh at the thick headed Irish man.

That aside what he said was correct in that piece but then again sky sports got the bit of footage they were hoping they would get with our Roy losing the cool again.

Yea he is turning into Mr. Rent-a-quote alright but I don't think it is in Roy not to answer a question when it is asked

Not too many are interested in what your average Championship manager says but Roy is quite clearly not your average Championship manager. No-one knows whether the other managers were asked or how they answered cos not many are bothered what they say anyway (no disrespect intended but it is the way of the world).

I don't know if Roy annoys people more when they think he is right or when they think he is wrong!

When he is right, without question.

He is spot on here on this one, no doubt about it.

They dont ask him these questions because he is a manager of a championship team. But rather because he was one of the best and most controversial players of his generation.

I can see why Ipswich are struggling alright. Keane bigged up by going through the team and offering his opinions. Football is 11 a side, not 10 Roy.

QuoteIt has always been a marked observation that Lampard and Gerard are completely unsuited to be the CM pairing for any team. That penny did not even sink with Capello.
If a country does not have a playerr like Ozil and Schweisteiger then you have to at least solidify the CM.

I think the problem lies again with keeping possession - because they don't/can't, England's midfield has to play 'flat', so attacking wide players receive the ball too deep, and following on, their full-backs don't get to attack effectively.  Because Germany/Argentina/Brazil/Spain (and Holland, to a lesser extent) keep the ball better, it allows the wide players to receive the ball in advanced positions (often in enough space to do damage).

Taking stew's point about English kids being coached to death, he may be right, but they're not being coached in the most important simple technical skills of first-touch and control.  There's long been a strange fascination in the English game of the tactic of 'if i run headlong into the wall quickly enough and repeatedly, the solid brick wall will collapse ... eventually'.

And always likely to lose his cool and get a good bit of footage for Sky Sports to use..
As I said they are using him for their own gain,if anyone actually thinks Sky Sports care what Roy Keane thinks then they are sadly deluded, they are doing it purely to get a reaction out of him so it makes good TV.

Sadly our Roy always has to voice his opinion on everything so Sky are always onto a winner with him.

How many different issues have you seen him interviewed on in the last 12 months on SkySports?

One one hand people complain about how stodgy and sanitised the interviews and pundits are in England and then Keane gets interviewed and makes a great argument about Englands failures and why the happened and people are annoyed at him for that, not me, I think he is 100% right on this one.

I still cant abide the fecker though but fairs fair and he should be one the RTE panel, imagine the craic then.  ;)

Whose annoyed Stew?
I could care less about him or what he says, I already said what he said about England was correct but it's obvious Sky do tee it up for him to lose the cool to which he always complies.
Annoyed with him though? I think not  :D

Part of me agrees with keane, but I don't know if he is the right man to make judgement.

He was a highly motivated loner as a player, one of those rare types who gets motivated by every criticism and even more confident with every bit of praise.

The truth is that most people aren't like this though, and they do require a certain harmony and happiness in their life to be at their best. That's not just footballers I'm talking about.

England's players were awful and were a complete embarrassment to their country. But when you look for reasons why this happened, you do have to take a long and objective look at the management. For whatever reason, capello just isn't the right man to manage the England team. Which is fair enough, they're obviously an overrated bunch of egos more than a football team. But, a man earning £5m a year should be able to adapt, motivate and educate as a minimum skillset. He should also not be bringing Emile Heskey to a World Cup, let alone taking him on when you're chasing a game.

thewobbler

Sorry, I meant to add in there that because of keane's unusual traits, he will also continue to fail at football management until he realises that a happy bunch of players will always play better than a bunch of scared or unhappy players. He is going to have to adapt.

Ever the gent, Mick McCarthy's take on England's exit - reflecting a mature football brain and honest analysis.

"I'm not going to indulge in knee-jerk criticism but while you may not always have the best players on the pitch, you have to devise the best system for the players available and put the right partnerships in place throughout the team. That did not happen with England."

Somebody mentioned earlier 'stodgy' and 'sanitised'.  How apt.
