Americans were robbed. Great second half performance and god knows how the ref disallowed that goal, penalty if anything.

Absolutely, terrible decision. USA should still progress to the second round by beating Algeria, tough enough on Slovenia being so close to qualifying and now they'll find it very hard, but you can't defend like that and expect to go far in the World Cup.

Puckoon

Great spirit by the American team, truely looked dead and buried after that second goal against the run of play. Donovans goal was almost in slow motion for me - he was begging someone to make a run into the box!

Said it before on the USA World cup thread - little Bradley is a very very good player.

Go on te feck!

Missed both games today, second one sounded great. What was the first like? Looking forward to seeing the highlights tonight.

Yeah agree with that about Bradley, looks a very tidy player, good engine too. He was excellent against England in the 1st game. Also agree the yanks were robbed!

That USA Slovenia game was exciting, but had a decent quota of the worst quality of football played at the WC. Worst football as in the most inept performance by the USA that I have seen from them in competition.  Slovenia  - worst defending I have seen from any team in a competition. I don't know how they got away with it,  I suppose it was fitting that this game also had the worst referee. Add in the unique factor of a goalkeeper who uses his post to hide behind.

It was strange that Donovan could not do anything on the ball after he scored, possibly injured/knackered.
The USA are desperate short of quality up front.
Who ever finishes first in Germany's group has a handy round 2 game.

Slovenia's keeper wasn't too sharp on either goal. He hid behind the near post for the first and failed to come out and attack the ball and man for the second.

The tournament has awoken from it's slumber but unfortunately due to inept refereeing rather than high quality play.

Just for you ONeill -

I toul yis things would improve in the second group games when teams have to have a bit more urgency. A great fella am I.

England are desperate aren't they - they'll probably win this one but I just can't wait until the face a decent team!

Algeria playing all the football so far, still can't see England losing though but as you say pints first decent team they face could tear them apart. Their back four don't look solid at all.

What is best price for England to win the heap? I'm thinking a tenner on them to win might soften the blow if the other teams conspired to lose the competition to England. Have yet to see a standout team.

Unfortunately that could be a while before they meet one of the top sides the way the draw is, but they would be absolutely taken apart on this form.

Even if the favourites haven't shined yet, I haven't seen anything from England to suggest they can even challenge. They'd want to pull the finger out big style if they have thoughts of winning it.
