Lads, being the wing back on one of the best teams in the country over a sustained period of time gives you kudos, praise and recognition that better players on lesser teams don't get. For example, sean kelly is the best wing back in ireland. who outside ulster has heard of him? maybe the leitrim wing back is better? or tipps? the masses will never know.

For what its worth, tomas o'se is a far superior wing back. jordan can drive forward as well as anyone but o'se is also brave, wins ball, marks and tackles.

Final Whistle

well done-but we will try this again....who is the best no.7 in the country this last 10 years???

In your opinion of course.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion but although O'Se is an excellent footballer I could not agree he is a better player than Philip Jordan. Best Number 7 in the game for the past 10 years for me. As I already said in this thread the 2003 incident does not go down as his finest hour due to the fact he charged in on Marsden then went down after being struck but the fact is Marsden raised his hands and struck Jordan. It was his own fault he was sent off and he wasnt cheated out of anything.
I would also contest the allegation above that Jordan is not brave ??? As a player who carries the ball forward at speed he has often been hit hard and late (plenty of times by that Armagh team) and continued to get up and keep harrying forward. A player who when he retires will be rightly remembered as one of the great servants and players of Tyrone GAA whatever the efforts of a few bitter internet posters to smear his reputation.

Crazy statement. I though Oneill was spot on with his comment about O Sé on the "under-rated" thread. O Sé is the best wing back of his generation by a fair distance. Jordan's a good player, was he of more significance to that Tyrone side than Gormley or McMenamin? Arguably not. Very good player on a very good team.

As for 2003, he did what he did, its done and dusted now. By the letter of the law maybe it should have been that they were both sent off, wasn't Jordan on a yellow card? Of course its going to come up from time to time, all key incidents in major games do. Its not as though Tyrone people are adverse to bringing up the 1996 semi final or Canavan touching the ball on the ground in 1995 every now and again.

:D
He'll always be remembered for being the player who dived and got a man sent off in an all Ireland final, whether a few brain dead tyrone people like it or not.

I am not so sure that I agree - tyrone fans would be bring up 95 and 96 alot more often if we hadnt won the 3 AIs...but never to undermine the quality of any player in the opposition...I would say that in 02 and 03, Armagh had an incredible team and were outdone in 03, by a better one...I certainly dont feel the need to slag of any of the Cork players after last years semi - they beat us on the day, with some interetsing tactics, but ultimately we lost, adn i'll get over it.

PJ was the focus of some vitriol on this thread, undeservedly so - he should be and ultimately will be remembered for his skill, speed, bravery, dedication to TYRONE and GAA in general.

Within Armagh maybe.

However i would doubt that he will be solely remembered for that incident on a national level.

TacadoirArdMhacha

If you ask me what I remember Charlie Redmond for, it would be his sending off and refusal to leave the pitch in an All Ireland final and secondly, missing that penalty against Down.

People remember the big moments in big games.

Maybe it depends on where you come from. When I think of Jordan I think of O'Muircheartaigh's comment during the '05 final -  'that man of steel'. The vision of Jordan at full pelt breaking tackles with determination written all over his neb for me mirrors what Jordan the footballer was about. That's why it was sad to see him at 70% v Cork.

I understand Armaghicans remembering him for '03. They've had little to remember since. I bit like England and Maradona.
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Bensars

If he had have retired after 2003 then undoubtedly he would have been remembered for that incident.

However he didnt and went on to win another 2 All irelands, another 2 all stars, an ulster, 4 Mc Kenna cups and represented ireland in the compromise  rules.

So within armagh probably yes, outside of armagh the general perception will be that of  a great attacking half back.

gallsman

O Sé and PJ are both two of the finest wing backs of the past decade.

However, it is Tomás who will go down in history as one of the finest footballers of his or any other generation.

Do you mean who is the best wing back in the country? numbers and sides mean nothing as most wing backs will line out each side as much as the other.

Assuming that is the question then its tomas o'se.
