Think Matt Derbyshire is one of the most under-rated players about. Think he is married to an Irish blade does that qualify him him for kicking ball for the Republic?

Unless she is also his granny or mother then no and btw he is ket and would struggle to start for the six.

fairly sure someone played a game for ireland who only qualified via marriage - think it was a centre half.  Derbyshire would probably be good enough for the irish squad.

Paul Butler qualified to play for Ireland via an Irish wife - think he only played one game though.

In farness I would rate Derbyshire a better player than Leon Best and a number of the other current Irish squad. He plays Champions League Football for his club.

Someone get on the phone to Trap there and get it sorted.

 FW Leon Best September 19, 1986 (1986-09-19) (age 23) 5 0  Coventry City
FW Kevin Doyle September 18, 1983 (1983-09-18) (age 26) 30 7  Wolverhampton Wanderers
FW Noel Hunt December 26, 1982 (1982-12-26) (age 26) 3 0  Reading
FW Robbie Keane July 8, 1980 (1980-07-08) (age 29) 94 40  Tottenham Hotspur
FW Shane Long January 22, 1987 (1987-01-22) (age 22) 11 3  Reading

This is the current forwards in the Ireland Squad. Kevin Doyle and Robbie Keane are first choice. I would still rather have Matt Derbyshire to throw in against a possible play off opponent than Leon Best, Noel Hunt or Shane Long. No offence to them like just think he would be a better option.

Is a wife really enough to qualify a fella to play for a country?

If it is I'm surprised the UAE and Qatar haven't married up half of South America by now.

This was my original question AFS. Someone mentioned Paul Butler played for ROI through his wifes connection.

Get Kevin Nolan on board as well then I might start supporting ROI.

Seems this boy lined out for the States because of his wife too.

Though, I wonder have FIFA since closed this loophole? Surely there's someone here that can answer this definitively, there were certainly a number of experts on FIFA eligibility rules in the Darron Gibson threads.

Derbyshire played a pile of games for the England U21s, think this might rule him out. Could be an interesting source of players though, there has to be a few more Irish WAGS out there.

Sh1te Matt is out injured at the minute. But when fit get him in.

There was a new rule introduced last year whereby it didn't matter if you had been capped at underage as long as you weren't capped at senior.
