In the financial climate its a WASTE OF MONEY! 'I DON'T BELIEEEEEVEEEE IT!'

Whose money is being wasted?

In the financial climate, it's the IDEAL time to be building something for the best price, while also providing jobs in the Tyrone area.

It'll be a terrific benefit to the whole of Tyrone, not just the Tyrone team. Lots of schools will be able to avail of it and clubs. Some people can't see past the end of their own noses. This is good for Tyrone GAA.

Did I hear that there will be a revenue stream from Garvaghey by charging a fee for those who use the facility ?.

Not sure - but "revenue" indicates that the county board will make money from it - if there were such a charge I would say it would be a contribution towards running costs.  Funding the capital project is one thing, ongoing running costs is another.

Very true. All those pitches, lights etc will be expensive to maintain. People tend to forget that part of it.

I would love to comment on it but obviously I haven't seen it and I've been told that I'm not allowed to comment on things unless I've seen them with my own two eyes.  :(

*Fixed.

It is a great idea and impressive forward thinking from all involved. If we were to listen to the likes of Radda bout ye we would be sitting in the position of Fermanagh where they don't even have the funds to pay for a physio at training. Radda bout ye would you ever think that this might benefit umpteen generations to come and how by carrying this incredible feat our at this time we are gettin unbelieveablely good value for money. Surely not everyone in the tones adopts the stance of yourself, was Mark Conway not a great promoter of this venture?

There will be mitigating savings - rent on office in Omagh, costs payable to various venues for sub-committee meetings, payments to club grounds for county training facilities etc.  The costs have by no means been ignored by the guys running the project though - they're thoroughly aware of them but I'm not sure what the quantum is.

I think it's a good idea, and a HQ/ training facility is required. However I think it's over ambitious and too grand. Have the clubs not- voluntarilly- stumped up money for the project? I also believe that the money from Croke Park's opening that was to filter through to the clubs was used for Garvaghey as well?

I am also not convinced all clubs and schools will see a benefit as is constantly being stated. Will Owen Roes- bar the odd underage blitz- use it much?

What happens if the incomes/ saving don't cover the running costs/ maintenance? Who stumps up the bill?

Saying all that, democracy has seen this project moving forward, and I have to applaud the effort and foresight. However I have my reservations.

Hard to argue with much of that.  In theory sounds a good idea, in practice it could be a whole different ball game.

A bit like Owen Roes, I couldnt imagine Ardboe ever using it too much bar the very odd underage game.  Judging by previous posts it seems clubs will have to pay to use the facilities even though it seems they are already contributing an annual fee, if so that is not an ideal scenario.

What are the projections for capital spend on the complex?

Radda bout yeee

IN MY OPINION I think its not worth the outlay! I'm thinking like owen roes & loughshore lad here. Its too big and not going to benefit everyone. Kildress won't get to use it much. Runing costs are bound to be extraordinary - whose picking up this bill????
Plus FW just because Mark Conway help set this up doesn't mean I have to agree with him! I've voiced my opposition to this before!!!

Final Whistle

In my opinion it is fabulous. We have schools primary and secondary callin us all the time looking to use facilities-this place will be ideal for them. When Peter Quinn mooted the redevelopment of Croke Park there were nay sayers also and it turned out great. The Moy will get little use also but if it develops/inspires another Peter Canavan/Conor Gormley/Des Tracey then it will be money well spent in my view.

ONeill

Will there be a handball alley at it for curting women?
I wanna have my kicks before the whole shithouse goes up in flames.

Final Whistle

a bike shed-which you can go round the back off for a small fee! you are past courting anyway.

All this info has been on the website for well over a year so take a read at it about funding and so on.

As for the running costs, I'll refer you to the post I put on earlier about mitigating savings that are currently being spent - those won't be incurred when Garvaghey is up and running.  And I have no idea about payment for use - I just imagine that there will have to be some contribution at times.  In Club Tyrone at the minute it's about raising the capital, and like everything else in Tyrone over the past ten years since the Millenium Fund, the great people running it will ensure it's a financial success.

Of course it's a risk but one that is heavily weighted towards the advantageous side, otherwise what would be the point.

The club contribution (as Garvaghey patrons) is for a finite period - five years - and is for the capital work.

The point that's consistently made about it is that this is not a facility that will just be used in our lifetimes but will belong to Tyrone GAA long after we've gone.

Anyway, I shall preach no more, it's well under way now and I think the efforts will be worth it.
