I work with a lot of D4 who were in meltdown already over the polls. I just pointed that the kids in Gaza waiting for bombs to drop must be glad the Good Guys aka Biden/ Harris are supplying them...

It's INSANE how tainted middle class Ireland can't admit that Harris is crap or that this is what the USA wants and what they are about. Pointing out the Economist said the economy is great and playing down the feeling of everyday citizens is typical.

Sure we can look at Ireland saying we have a flying economy with corporation tax and full employment but you then people need cost of living measures!

Biden should have stepped away pre-election as they were absolutely lying about his state of health. Then they were stuck with someone who did F all before.
them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

Her vote tally in NYC was the lowest for a D since 1988

Same in Chicago - so obviously even hard core Democrats saw how bad she is

She wasn't great, no question, but I'd put more of the blame for this on Biden. He completely misread the midterms as an endorsement when he should have stood aside for a proper primary, as most assumed would happen when they elected him. History will not be kind.

Yep, Biden should have said that he would not run again, and used some language about one term being enough for anyone his age. As you say, history will not be kind.

On immigration, it was dangerous to give any impression of things being out of control, they should have negotiated the cross party bill sooner in the their term.

However, on the economy it is clear that the macro economy is doing rightly, slbeit with excessive government borrowing, but there are some issues with the spread of the benefits. So what exact policies should the democrats have followed that Trump will follow that will make a material difference? From this side of the Atlantic I don't see this at all.

By the time they had negotiated the bill 11,000,000 people had entered the country illegally and Senior Democrats started talking about a pathway to citizenship for the undocumented

They only have themselves to blame

Why would the republicans have given them a win in immigration when they had fvcked things up so badly. Make them own it

Trump did not hide who he is, he made it quite plain and much as I don't like it he reflects the USA as it is.
Non whites voting for him remind me of turkey's and Christmas. Democrats ignored the fact that Biden was deeply unpopular with many demographics and Harris by extension. Many Arab/Muslim Americans seem to have voted Trump as the least worst option. That said the Trump dynasty are odious self serving narcissistic clowns.
Michelle Obama should have stood.

It would have been the same result
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

The Greens' Jill Stein seemed to be the one who won most of the Arab vote, at least if her strong showing in Dearborn (the largest centre of Arab population in the US) is any indication, polling somewhere in the mid 20s.

Both candidates were awful and is a said reflection of current politics.

Harris came across as incompetent and trump was full of usual bluster without any actual detailed policies.

Anyone celebrating a trump win would need to remember that in a few years time. The effect of his policies wont fully be seen until after his term is up. He will push US further into debt which will be felt all over world markets.

Not great times ahead unfortunately.

It's not only that, the MAGA movement will live on and get even stronger. They will have an heir sorted within 4 years and on we go again...

Arab Americans are a small demographic. No sane American presidential candidate is going to woo them and lose their jewish donor base.
This is not the victory for Palestinians that some posters here think. Trump is extremely pro-Israel and a good buddy of Netanyahu.

lol

Musk has even more big fat government contracts on the way. He's feeling good today.

I wonder will Trump follow through on the austerity program that Musk said would bring  "temporary hardship" last week? One thing about Trump, he likes to be liked. I seriously doubt he has the resolve that, say, Reagan displayed when he supported Alan Greenspan's inflation-fighting Fed policies in the early 80s.

Rory putting everything perspective:

Rory McIlroy believes Donald Trump becoming US president for the second time could help "clear the way" for a peace deal in golf's civil war.
The four-time major winner also said the potential involvement of Elon Musk, a supporter of Trump and the owner of social media platform X, could speed up the process.

Quote from: trileacman on November 06, 2024, 09:30:28 AMGiven that now it looks like America is going to abandon its allies, Ireland surely now has to look at joining NATO. We've farmed out our defence to the Brits and America for too long.
The war mongerers? Not a chance

Watch again in this administration how Jews control America (and rest of the West).

This is acceptable on the board now, is it?
It's true.

They really can't handle why someone would vote for Trump.

It is hilarious
