Can Villa play centre-back? Surely that has to be the priority for next season.

2 new centre halves needed I reckon. Carra retiring. Skrtel looking like he might be sold and Coates hardly looking convincing on the odd occasion he gets a chance. 2 new centre-halves and Wisdom can cover there as well. Would like a strong athletic box to box midfielder as well. Maybe someone like Diame at West Ham.

Liverpool are scoring loads of goals but I think they've conceded the most they have since 1999. Priority this Summer definitely has to be reshaping the defence.

Just watching the 2005 Champions League Final here on ESPN Classic. At 1-0 down Andy Townsend comments that Liverpool can't afford to go 2 down as there would definitely be no way back from that!

Has this not been the pattern of late for Liverpool really strong finish to the season, when most teams have the deck chairs out and playing for their holidays?

Not last season anyway, second half of the season was brutal in the League anyway.  In the league since January 9 wins, 6 draws, 3 defeats, 42 goals scored, 17 against.  Not bad really given that it is the new managers first year, new players in and players getting to know the system.  A lot of room for improvement but a lot of reason for optimism, next year is our year

Class act in that he was a great professional who was loyal to his club (even being an Everton supporter). He is one of the last of that breed that are not ruled by £$££$£$£$.

Woodwork denies Liverpool Champions League place

There are three kind of lies: lies, damned lies and statistics. But these bunch of stats from our friends at Opta certainly make for interesting reading.

Suppose every shot that hit the woodwork this season had counted as a goal, the Premier League table would have taken on a very different look.

Tottenham Hotspur fans would have been partying hard thinking of the Champions League next term and the riches it bring rather than the slightly impoverished Europa League.

Andre Villas-Boas's side would have finished third in the Premier League table with 76 points netting 83 goals if not for those pesky goal frames.

The actual table left Spurs in fifth place with only 66 goals. Those 17 added goals would have hoisted them a further two places up the ladder.

It also suggests Liverpool never had too much luck on their side in finishing seventh. Either that, or they were wasteful.

Brendan Rodgers's team would have added 19 goals to their tally and moved up the table three places, earning them Arsenal's spot in the Champions League play-offs.

Arsenal and Chelsea would have both missed out on the top four.

Kolo Toure: Liverpool will move for Manchester City defender

BBC Sport Liverpool will move for Manchester City defender Kolo Toure on a free transfer once his contract expires in June.

With Jamie Carragher having retired, Liverpool are looking to sign two centre backs and Schalke's Kyriakos Papadopoulos is a leading target.

Toure is in the United States as part of City's post-season tour but the proposed move to Anfield is likely to progress quickly once he returns.

The 32-year-old joined City from Arsenal in July 2009 for £14m.
