Marvellous performance today - was like watching Arsenal at times in and around the area! Let's hope that sets the standard going forward.

Hardly a vintage performance J70,I thought they laboured for most of the game and never really got out of 2nd gear even though it could have been 6 or 7 nil
They didn't have to though really as Burnley were awful

"Vintage peformance" as in one for the ages? Then yes, I suppose you're right, but then again a one-sided win against a promoted side is hardly going to be remembered no matter well they play! I still think they were excellent though, and did as much as could be asked. They laboured to a win against Bolton two weeks ago and drew quite a few games like this last year - you have to give credit when its due.

Youse will do well to finish in the top five at this stage.

Hopefully we have enough to avoid relegation anyway.

[there will be no place for Liverpool to hide if and when they lose Torres or Stevie G.

Like last season when we had to deal with out Gerrard and especially Torres for long periods...oh hold on didn't we 8)

Liverpool FC and Standard Chartered Bank announced today they had agreed a four year deal for the bank to become the club's main sponsor - the largest commercial agreement in Liverpool's history.
The agreement, which starts in July 2010 and runs through to the end of the 2013-14 season, will see the bank's name and logo appear on the Liverpool shirt.

Liverpool FC is the most successful club in English football, enjoying a global following most recently evidenced in its highly successful pre-season tour of Singapore and Thailand. As official club sponsors, Standard Chartered will enjoy a major rights package which will provide the platform to significantly step up the Bank's brand awareness across its core markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Standard Chartered PLC, listed on both London and Hong Kong stock exchanges, ranks among the top 25 companies in the FTSE-100 by market capitalisation. The Bank has more than doubled its revenue and profits over the last five years and has performed consistently well, delivering record results throughout the recent financial crisis.

Christian Purslow, Managing Director of Liverpool Football Club, pictured above signing the contract alongside Standard Chartered chairman John Peace, commented: "This partnership brings together two highly successful organisations with a really strong cultural and strategic fit. The sponsorship opportunity attracted a huge level of interest from a wide array of globally recognised brands and in Standard Chartered we believe we have the ideal partner to move forward and help develop our global ambitions for the club. It is a real sign of the progress we have made at Liverpool that we have been able to secure the largest ever commercial deal in our history."

Peter Sands, Group Chief Executive of Standard Chartered PLC, said: "This is a great partnership. We are excited to be working with such a famous global brand as Liverpool Football Club for the next four years. This is an outstanding opportunity for Standard Chartered, our customers and shareholders, and for Liverpool, its players and fans

"We see many opportunities to continue growing our business, particularly as Asia, Africa and the Middle East are emerging from the global downturn more quickly than the West. This sponsorship will drive a step change in brand recognition in our key markets and will provide an additional catalyst for our business growth."

Some great news. Anyone know what other clubs deals are and how this rates against them?

Think it is supposed to match the United one which is the biggest deal.

Its gonna look pretty shite on the jersey though! Always liked Carlsberg on it

Down to Page 3 and no one with an opinion!!!!  Have we all lost faith so early in the year?

What about tonight, Aurelio in the squad, an ideal time to get a bit of game time, Masch is back but as it is at home I would stick with the midfield of Lucas and Gerard and go for goals against a novice CL team.  Torres to kick into gear and get a hat trick!

gawa316

I'd go for same team as last wkd with possibly bringing aurelio in for Insua. If we get a few goals up take the big hitters off for the wkd and let Vorinin on to do his thang!

Must win game as they are the weakest in group and no doubt Lyon and Fiorentina will get maximum points from them. Remember the Marseille game a fews years back when Rafa fucked about with the team and we ended up losing. Strongest team please Rafa

I'm sure they will be spirited on their CL debut but much like last saturday, we should be professional about it and have enough to get a good start.

Was at game on Saturday and it was the lesser lights who carried the team - Benny, Lucas who was very effective in the opening 20 mins when Burnley enjoyed possession and looked in the game. Torres very quiet and his movement was non-existant at times. May have been leggy after internationals but he doesn't look like he's firing fully yet. He wasn't helped by the ref, as in first 30 mins he was constantly body checked off the ball when he made a run.

New deal has to be good news, money is money and we don't seem to have a lot it. Couldn't care what it looks like on the jersey, we'll get used to it.

Yip good news about the sponcership alright. Good to be able to keep up with United if it is of the same value.

The problem with Lucas is that he might play a good game like last saturday and you start to think that he could be a consistent player for the pool and then he goes and shits in the nest! There was times last year when I really thought he would push on and up his play but only to be dissappointed when he does something stupid.
But like you say no better game than tonight to give him a rattle in there again.
Also might be a chance for Torres to start to show a little more spark as he has seemed slightly subdued this year.
Gerrard seems to be on good Form as he showed with Engerland so Could see him popping up with two the night.

Liverpool to win 3-0.

RIP Corn.

I think the problem with Lucas is that when him and Masch are playing they are looking to do the same things.
On Saturday his movement was great in a 4-4-2, he could get forward, held when Stevie went forward and was always available to take a pass. When he give a pass he quickly followed it up and looked for the return if needed and changed direction of play. Maybe the repsonsibility on him helped. For the first 25 mins he was the pick of the Liverpool players.

Many false dawns with him and when Aquaman is fit we may see less of him but he's growing into a decent squad player and maybe thats his level.

supersarsfields

Come on Lads, were are ya's?????

RLL, Gab, AZ, Chris, NIFan,  anyone?

Things are awfully quiet.

Can see a few changes tonight, with the big greek coming in for Skertal and maybe Voronin for Torres who looks tired and of his game although a start tonight could see him bag a couple and kick start his season.  Benny will have to start again after his weekends performance.

Reina
Johnson
Carra
Big Greek
Insua
Lucas
Gerarrd
Kuyt
Benny
Riera
Voronin/Torres

I have a feeling Torres might not play tonight. He doesnt seem 100% fit and could probably do with a rest. Don't think there's much point playing Mascherano either as he picked up a knock for the Argies, so I'd wait till the weekend to bring him back.

I'd keep the same formation as Burnley, i.e. Benny behind the striker. I <think> I'd like to see Babel get another chance.
