Bayern Munich star odds-on to join Liverpool

Skybet this afternoon brought Franck Ribery in from 66/1 to 8/13 to join Liverpool.

The firm took a number of bets this afternoon after the French winger had last week ruled out a move to England.

Ribery's price was lowered and backed throughout the day before the Harrogate-based firm made the Bayern Munich player odds-on to join the Anfield club.

Skybet's Dale Tempest said: "Every price we have put up has been taken on Ribery moving to Liverpool, which has left us stumped as in recent weeks he has been liked with every other club but the Reds!

"After seeing money for him to join Man United and Real Madrid at the same time that Bayern Munich say he's going nowhere, we've now seen a flood of bets on him to join Liverpool.

"8/13 may seem a very short price but after the losses we made last week on Michael Owen, who was gambled down from 20/1 to move to Manchester United, we are taking no chances."

These odd's have to be taken with a pinch of salt. SkyBet suspended betting yesterday on John Terry signing for City. Also were quoting odds of 1/15 for Eto'o to join City last week.

i think its alot to do with them getting badly stung with owen going to united, being backed in from 20/1
would be very surprised if liverpool got ribery,th amount of money being qouted for him was huge, and can't see liverpool forking it out
I can only please one person per day. Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either

Real Zaragoza have completed the signing of Jermaine Pennant after his release by Liverpool.

The former Arsenal youngster passed a medical with the Spanish outfit on Thursday and will join their bid for survival next season after being promoted back to the Primera Division.

The 26-year-old becomes Zaragoza's first signing of the summer and joins for nothing on a three-year deal.

Pennant told the club's website: "I wanted to come to Spain and I had offers from important teams in Europe but joined Real Zaragoza.

"I really want to get started and do well in the league."

Pennant spent time on loan at Portsmouth last season after losing his place at Anfield.

The former England Under-21 winger impressed for Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan but found opportunities increasingly limited from then on.

Talk about damning with faint praise. I'm sure Zaragoza will be delighted that he doesn't consider them important :)

I think I will be having some of the 2/1 that Ribery stays at Munich

No chance of him joining Liverpool!

edit: They have took the market down.

Only way it will happen is if Babel goes the other way.
Van Gaal in charge there and may prefer the Dutch lad over the far better Ribery!!
Heres hoping...

No but most pool fans will be if Alonso stays.

Amazing that it took you two weeks to try and get your dig in due to Tevez telling United to f**k off.

Rafa needs to keep his mouth shut. Slabbering on about money, while Liverpool introduce a player they paid over the odds for as well as doubling his wages.

For feck sake, I think that Rafa was making the point that he had to pay over the odds due to the market going crazy. On one hand he gets grief for paying big money and then when he explains himself he gets grief. The press have really played up on his comments.
