I was talking to a utd fan earlier and he said he would rather have got beaten by Chelsea during the week than by City yesterday.

Would this be a common thought amongst utd fans?

If you had asked me yesterday straight after the game I might have agreed but now that the dust has settled I would have to say no.

Wouldn't imagine so, beating City would not really be the main thing this year, Wining 19 titles and over taking Liverpool would be the main thing first and foremost, Wining as many CL titles as Liverpool would be the next, they can keep the league cup record ;)

Plenty of time to beat City

his reasoning was he wanted to stop city winning trophies for another season, and the fact that the final of fa cup will be a penalty kick compared to whats left in CL

magpie seanie

Look - the defeat to city is sickening to United supporters especially when the final is a game city should win to end the 35 year trophy drought. Truth be told though with the money behind them it was/is going to happen some time, though it was fun while it lasted (or lasts - Stoke will have nothing to lose and are dangerous at set pieces. If they can score first they'll probably do it and as we all know, no-one does shooting themselvs in the foot quite like city).

That said, there's no way you'd swap beating city in the semi for going out to Chel$ki in the CL quarter final. Yes - winning the CL is still not likely (it will be tough enough getting by Schalke, neve mind the winners of the other semi) but I'd prefer a 3/10 chance of the CL than a 9/10 FA Cup, regardless of who wins the bloody thing. United have been very unfortunate in the latter stages of FA Cups in recent times. This is now the longest FA Cup drought for United since I was born!

Most United supporters would settle for the title at the start of the season and if that is acheived it will have been a good season.

ross4life

When you consider the money Man City have spent the last few years they should at least challenging for the title,in the CL instead of Spurs & have a few cups won.

That defeat on Saturday meant as much as the 2008 FA cup defeat to Portsmouth (hopefully the same happens) BTW I'd still fancy Stoke to win the FA cup.

United...second best team in Manchester

FACT

Fact?  How have you come to that logic?

Spent hundreds of millions on players and still can't even get into the Champions League never mind challenge for the title.  The banner isn't down yet but if it does go then it will have been a costly wee FA Cup.

Im not worried about not winning the FA cup I would have taken the 19th League Title at the start of the season and anything after that was a complete bonus esp with the way the squad have played this year.

IMO what is more worrying is the seemingly total dependence on Rooney and to a lesser extent Giggs in these big games. Think there is serious investment needed in the squad in general.

Dave

Can someone tell me why Manchester United fans are so concerned about what happens at other clubs? All you seem to talk about is not wanting City to win any trophies or over taking Liverpool with league wins. You rarely hear any fans of other clubs at this talk. Look at Liverpool yesterday, they just wanted to win that game despite the fact it probably meant Manchester United will win the league. They dont seem to care as much about Manchester United winning a 19th title as Manchester United fans would like to think they do.
I dunno I just dont get this obsession with other clubs.

I really cared that Liverpool had the most league titles,

I'm not so concerned about City. They are not a club with a successful history as Utd and Liverpool are. They are a plastic club that are trying to overcome all problems by just throwing £££££ at it. They are not anything like Utd and never will be. Liverpool however are in the same bracket as Utd in terms of success and history. When I was growing up it was all Liverpool. Dominated the league. I was sick of the sight of them. Then things changed. Utd are now the dominant force in English football the last 20 years. If Utd do not win the league then usually are 2nd. When Fergie took over he wanted to 'knock Liverpool off their perch'. Well he done that a long time ago but number 19 will be the cherry on that cake. I doubt if it will take 20 years for Liverpool to get another league but no matter what they do they will never be able to mirror Utd's success under Fergie. The obsession for me is not with other clubs but with Utd proving that they are the best ever in their domestic league. LUHG.

Utter bullshit Dave. Try these for size: "most football supporters from Manchester support City"; "we've won it 5 times"; "you aint got no eeestoreee"; "shit on the Villa, shit on the Villa tonight". You only have to look at the soccer threads on this forum to see plenty of "obsession" with other clubs from lads that support teams. Soccer supporters are always having a go at other clubs and teir supporters, it goes with the territory. United fans may or may not (your own sensitivities can cloud this) currently be the loudest and numerous but its everywhere, for right or wrong.

Wouldn't agree, Giggs is Giggs but Rooney has only came into good form in the turn of the year; Park,Vidic,Smalling,Chicharito,Berbatov,Nani have played big parts for United this season & i don't think serious investment is needed? maybe a new keeper & midfielder.

I'm not a fan of either team but it's pretty easy to understand, think of Cork v Kerry would Kerry fans like Cork to overtake their title haul? i think not!

Good point, doesn't matter what sport you play or follow the main desire should be to be the best!

I agree all that matters is too be the best but I believe some fans rather another team didnt win than worry about their own team winning, not a fan of any club myself so my judgement isnt clouded by any sensitivity but Manchester United fans do seem to have intense obsessions about how other clubs are doing. Thats my opinion anyway and we are all entitled to one I believe.

Oh the irony, a non Utd fan posting (the only thread you post on) on the Utd thread giving out about their fans obsessing about other teams they do not support  ::) Fifty posts and 25% on the Utd thread and the rest on football threads slagging Utd.

Good post Dave from New York  :D

I think it is quite obvious 'Dave from New York' is a Liverpool fan but for some reason is ashamed/will not admit it. He is a WUM and a poor one at that.
