You know, if Westmeath's ability matched their arrogance, they'd have a trophy cabinetful of Sam Maguires by now. It wasn't the ref who beat ye, it was your own player who decided to try a Paul Galvin manoeuvre in front of the ref. Why don't ye go and take a swing at him instead?

And who here is disagreeing with you?

I'd have said that the Westmeath supporters (including yourself, by your own admission) who spent five minutes booing the referee seemed to disagree with me. Take it up with the Oz-bound prima donna instead.

Again, you haven't bothered to read and digest what I wrote. I never booed, that's for kids, soccerheads and the Dubs, I did call him a bollox though. The question again is " who here is disagreeing with you"?

QuoteAs for your first comment, real classy, nothing worse than a sore winner.

If you want to consider me a sore winner, fine, that's your business, but after last night's carry-on, I can't really feel much sympathy for Westmeath.

Your supporters thought the match was won once Heslin came on, and then when things didn't turn out the way they planned, they threw the rattle out of the pram. Very mature.

Utter nonsense, the game was right in the melting pot when he came on, in fact I thought they brought him on too soon, I'd have left it a bit and I certainly wouldn't have taken off Keenan for him. As for your other childish comment about throwing rattles out of prams, well I think you'll find most people were giving out about the referee during the match, some of us even before. p.s. no one is looking for your sympathy.

Leave us out of your sour grapes Croi - the last time we played you in Championship (sorry second last as last time we beat you by 27 points or something) you booed our freetakers just as we booed yours - you've also just admitted that you booed yourself as did the Westmeath support.

Incidentally, I would consider booing on a lower scale to sore losers hitting a young referee a cowardly box.

Best of luck to Longford in the final - nice to see some new faces in the Leinster final.

QuoteLE, you mustn't go to too many football matches

Holy God. Laureleye has been to more football matches than I've had hot women dinners.

He's been up close and personal to the supporters of The Connollys, Kenagh (pronounced Kay-nah) and, worst of all, Colmcille (  :-* ) locally and those Derry supporters in Ballymahon, the Mayo lads in Longford last year and many many others and I can assure you if what he saw in Navan last night disturbed him then it was a disturbable event.

Even me auld lad didn't like the atmosphere at the end and in his playing days, had there been a CCCC in the 1950s, him and a few of his cohorts would have been regulars before the beak so he's not innocent abroad.

But, as said, time to move on and focus on Longford v Wexford in two week's time.

There's a difference between not liking an atmosphere and coming out with the sh1te that LaurelEye is coming out with.
I couldn't even begin to count the matches I've been at with a similar atmosphere at the end. High horses indeed.
O'Shea also made the situation ten times worse than he needed to. Why did he have to stand around on the pitch and why did it take him so long to head for the tunnel? It reminded me of Sludden standing around booking players last year. Why was he grinning as he headed towards the tunnel?
The gas thing is that I haven't heard one Westmeath fan blame the referee for loosing, he just made a complete mess of the game. Maybe there was a general over-reaction, some of it possibly misdirected frustration arising from Heslins indiscipline and flanagan's awful descision making, but I'm sure there's a few throwing the first stones and there's certainly an over-reaction here.

LE, you mustn't go to too many football matches if that was one of your most unpleasant experiences. You're very interested in everything Westmeath (players and fans) did at the match. Why don't you talk a little more about Longford and being in a Leinster final? Seems you're obvious blind hatred and obsession with your neighbours is getting in the way a little. There's always one.

Actually what I said was that it was "one of the less pleasant experiences" not the most unpleasant (most of those seem to involve a certain club in south Longford). The Westmeath supporters' behaviour at the end of the match was over the top and aimed at the wrong target. I stand by that.

And my initial comment on the thread was about the match and about Longford's performance in it before we got derailed. (Actually, it was a reply to yourself.)

QuoteI can see how that comment can be misread and will go back to modify/clarify it now. I wouldn't agree with sustained booing, more sporadic outburst on each occasion it looked like he was moving in the direction of the tunnel. I'm not sure what you mean by normal at a close match but I'm looking on it as the Westmeath support to a man giving their verdict on the referee's performance. Like I said not a sinner was moving from their seats and if O'Shea was still standing out in the middle of the pitch I'm sure we'd all still be there. There was no attempted invasion, no bottles or any other objects thrown and the management even walked over to shake his hand during the stand off. Like I said it was the Westmeath support to a man giving their verdict through heckles, boos or whatever you're having yourself.

Really, it was more than sporadic. The ref wasn't being kept away from the sideline for nothing. Our players weren't staying over on the far side of the pitch for nothing. (And it was for them that we were waiting.)

What do I mean by "normal at a close match"? Well, not trying to intimidate the ref into staying on the pitch at any rate. You said yourself that:

QuoteI've never seen a standoff like that at the final whistle before.

I'm simply agreeing with you.

No one was trying to intimidate the ref into staying on the pitch, in fact they were waiting for him to come in so that they could give their verdict of him, nothing more, nothing less. But you're not simply agreeing with me or else you would have said that initially instead of all the hyperbole sensationalist nonsense you came out with. What is it with Longford people and Westmeath? It's like a red rag to a bull, not our fault we're the only Leinster county that borders ye.
