One aspect of the Eng game that was glossed over was Capello picking that team.  If he seriously thinks that that is his best 1-11 then Eng are in a lot of trouble.  Milner was awful, Carragher is too slow and Heskey is a glorified pub player.  A good side will take them apart.  Shearer now calling for Dawson to be in the side.  A week ago he wasn't in the 23!!

What is insular about that? He is saying it is a tough choice.

Capt Pat

Algeria get a striker sent off for deliberate handball and a second yellow card. So stupid, now Slovenia are ahead.

Four pretty average games after an entertaining opener. France-Uruguay was awful.

Nice to see ITV be lovely and racist when commenting on how they were impressed with the ref in the SA-Mexico despite his noticeable handicap of being from Uzbekistan. Jim Beglin giggled away to himself about it "not being a hotbed of football" immediately after Drury made it very clear that he was the Asian Federation's number one ref. Southgate had something similar at half time as well.

ITV were also dreadful in their analysis of England's performance last night - somehow reckoning that England had played well and were unlucky not to come away with a win.

As I've said before, I think the horns are great. This is a South African World Cup and that's how it's done over there. Fair enough, you wouldn't want to be sitting beside one for 90 mins, but moaning about it coming through the TV is a bit ridiculous. You can hear the commentary perfectly (except on BBC who appear to be having quite a few technical difficulties).

Dissapointed at Chiles as well he's normally unbiased, but at half time when he said "calm down everyone, there's more reason to believe we'll win this match than lose it" I wasn't sure what match he was watching. Andy Townsend as well, "Redemption! Well done son" when Green pushed Altidore's shot onto the post, them boys would sicken your shite. Looking forward to these 2 games tonight, the standard so far hasn't been that great but I've been hooked to each one! Bar the France game of course.

He was in his hole.

Like so many on this board, you can't make a point so you just resort to name calling like a child in a playground.

Heskey was Englands best player....

Heskey was excellent, apart from one great chance he missed.  Milner lost a stone in weight over the past week due to illness.  Never should have started.  England will still top their group.

Big problem when you are a striker

Apart from passing to Gerrard for the goal I can't remember him doing anything of note - caught offside 5 or 6 times and fucked up a chance.

Gerrard was Englands best player, after him probably Lampard/Lennon or Terry even though they weren't great.

Well I guess everyone will have a different perspective on it, but I'm certainly not alone in my view.  A lot of the English media have Heskey down as their MOTM too.

aye but they think they're going to win the world cup and if it wasn't for bad luck, a curse on penalties and referees out to get them they would have won every world cup since 1966  ;)

True. Apart from 1998, of course, when they blamed Beckham!!!

BBC's half time analysis of Algeria-Slovenia was truly laughable. It was about 30 seconds long and Linekar finished by saying anything else to say or shall we just talk about England. Fair enough the game was crap but at least offer a bit of analysis of it.

As for Heskey last night, he was OK I thought by his standards but a striker is there to put the ball in the back of the net. They said last night his last goal was in February which tells its own story. Is there another striker so out of form at the World Cup?

Depends how you define form - Ronaldo didn't score once for Portugal in qualification while blasting them in all over the place at club level.
