Below is the ITV/BBC schedule for the World Cup (I presume RTE will cover all of these)

Is it just me or are there not many stand out/must watch games in the first phase??  Brazil v Ivory Coast and Brazil v Portugal maybe are two...and Germany v Serbia could be competitive but really, Cameroon v Denmark and even Spain v Switzerland doesn't exactly set the pulse running...Any views ???

Pity the Brazil - Portugal game is last in that group. Both could have already qualified for the next round at that stage. Lots of decent games, without many must watches. Argentina's games should be good, almost anything could happen.

True AFS, get ready for Maradona substituting Messi after 10 mins and bringing on himself!  Rumour has it he included squad player Ariel Garce in the 23 after having a dream that Arg won the WC and Garce was the only player he recognised!!
Antrim - One Of A Dying Breed of Genuine Dual Counties

:D You couldn't make it up. That man will provide some entertainment throughout the tournament. I think the group stage will be very entertaining, only a handful of teams I wouldn't want to watch, Honduras, North Korea, Greece, etc. But most of the games will be entertaining, although with the exception of a few results, they all seem quite easy to predict. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Some of the teams are not the best, North Korea, new Zealand, Honduras, Slovakia, Slovenia. I said it at the start of this thread but there is a lack of quality European sides at the tournament. Sweden, Russia, Croatia, Turkey, Ireland, Russia all sitting at home while the Greeks and the Swiss and the All Whites and the North Koreans drag the tournament down.

Olly

I am planning on watching every minute of every game live. Well I'll see how far I get.

I took all the food out of my fridge and cellar and put in 150 bottles of Stella Artois, 5 bottles of Gin and 50 bottle of white wine. It's going to be a great month.

Sweden, Croatia, Turkey and, lets be honest, Ireland really aren't much to write home about. Switzerland, Slovakia and Greece all have sound reasons to consider themselves superior. Of the European teams, only Slovenia seem particularly weak. Even at that, they were good enough to squeeze out the Russians.

England winnng 1-0 against Platinum Stars with a Defoe goal after 4 mins, Platinum Stars just missed a penalty though.

I'm sure they can provide some sort of entertainment. Did anyone hear Spillane mentioning them yesterday? Something about their star striker having to play nets, if I remember. I also heard that Kim Jong Il isn't letting them watch live games at home unless they win it! They're going to alter highlights to make them look like the better side, good luck with that :D

One of their strikers has promised to score in every game he plays. Even reading from a script prepared for him by someone else I dread to think what'll happen to him if (unlikely I know!) fails to pull through!

Doogie Browser

Did anyone see Newsnight last week?  A journalist spent some time in North Korea, talk about Big Brother rule.  All internet access and content is controlled by the state, no foreign news allowed, some of the people she spoke to had never heard of Nelson Mandela.
Seemingly a lot of the country are starving too as the country rations food.

That is excellent! You have to applaud his confidence, for want of a better word. Who is the striker in question anyway? Wouldn't mind having a look at him to see if his prediction is justified! Reminds me of Manucho in la liga this year, he promised the Real Valladolid fans he would score 40 goals last season, he finished the season with 4 :D

3 goals in 2 pre-world cup friendlies against Greece and Nigeria, don't rule him out!
