Back to the original. In my view it is even more insulting to turn up and deliberately not go the mass than not turning up at all. But hey the DUP have come a long way. When Cardinal O'Fiaich died in Lourdes they mocked the fact that this occured at a shrine noted for miraculous recoveries and asked where the miracle was this time

The fact that they went to the bother to turn up is a massive shift in their thinking. It would`nt have happened a few years ago. Sammy and Arlene have shown some degree of
decorum even if they did`nt stay for mass. So IMHO fair play to them. Small steps and all that. :o

As my ma always says about lack of mass going - "it wouldn't do you a bit of harm".

Mightn'd do you any good either but thats for another day.

fair play to Sammy and Arlene, at least they showed up.

to simply show up and not attend the service is the ultimate insult in my opinion, and it would have been much better to stay away completely. Surely you don't have to necessarily believe in everything you attend

Well if you go out of you way to be offended all the time then you will be offended more than some of us.

If neither attended you'd be gurning anyway.

What if they didn't receive the sacrament, would you be offended or would it be fine to go in and sit/stand/kneel on command like most others in the congregation?

People in the Northern Sound/Shannonside region are p...ed off because the President received wine at Mass last Sunday in her home parish in Roscommon.

Cant please every body.

What would be the point of them attending a ceremony they don't believe in? If I still went to mass I'd consider it an insult for someone I knew not to believe to simply show up and save face.

It is being disrespectful of oter peoples beliefs, and they are supposed to represent all their constituents.

Its like turning up a someone's house to express condolences but not going in because you think it is dirty/smelly etc. Better if they had just stayed away

I don't feel disrespected. Sure, it would have been nice to see them feel they could have attended the funeral mass. However you have to understand they are still in a battle for votes from Jim McAllister's TUV and this could have been potentially a PR disaster for them. A lot of knuckle draggers out there and this would have been as a slap in the face to the Protestant/Unionist/Loyalist community by some. Sad, but an unfortunate reality

Bollocks it is.

It's nothing like that whatsoever. If they'd stayed away you'd be ranting on here about it.

At least they went FFS, Tony.  If MPs are supposed to represent all their constituents, how come I don't have any representation at Westminster.  I don't see you gurning about those MPs not turning up. ::)
