Alco Pup

Going through Duty Free in the international airport on Friday (twould be bad manners not to pick something up in the alcohol aisle) to get a bottle of Powers finest.
70 cl or Ltr bottle?

Lifted the Litre bottle (of course), got to the till and was quoted £28??!! £28 for a bottle??!!!
Whats that all about?!
Granted was legging it to Liverpool so had to pay duty, but should it be that much?!

I love to listen to those pretentious tosspots who think they're sophisticated because they drink stuff like Franziskaner or Peroni or Neff or any other of those ponce beers at about £2 per bottle. Me, I'm a bucket of Tennants man and it gives me great enjoyment when I pick it up at 3 cases for £20 when it's on offer, that the aforementioned pretentious tosspots are subsidizing my supping.  Long may it last.

It's only pretentious if you're pretending to like it. A lot of people do like quality beers.

I'm a bit of a beer snob, but to be honest if its a toss up between a slab of tennets or a few cans of peroni etc, i'll take the cheap tennets everytime. Lets face it they are all commercial lagers (ok not the franzikaner) they all pretty much taste of nothing, you might as well drink the cheap C&T (cold and tasteless) over the expensive C&T.

I'd by the cheap tennets and stick it in the fridge for those C&T moments (a hot day etc). The money i'd save would go on a few proper ales that actually taste of something.

You're right there Fear. Actually the reason I drink Tennants is simply cos I like the taste. If I'm down south I drink Heineken which has a similar sweet taste. In any case it's not the drink but the company that's the most important. I see you're going to Horslips on Thursday night and sure who knows I could have a pint with you there

5Sams the fact you choose to publicize that you drink 'quality' German bee and indeed pull me up on the spelling of Neff or whatever way its spelt simply reinforces my point about pretentiousness

Buzz off Dougal.... :D :D

Suit yourself Dougal. This pretentious tosspot would rather drink a few bottles of quality chemical free beer made in Germany

Having lived in Munich for a couple of years, there's bavarians that woud be killled telling you that Spaten is pure piss and augustiner is pure gold. I liked the Spaten Helles. I dont know the differences in the drewing techniques!

I also had a friend in college that refused to drink teachers whiskey in his hot ones and was always giving out to me for being a penny pincher when I'd arrive home with the bottle of teachers.

One evening, we were having a game of cards and were drinking a few jameson hot ones. I switched the bottles after 3 or 4 hot ones, but he was singing the praises of the hot ones for the evening ( even though he was drinking teachers!!!)

Is that what you call a placebo??

Not my brew of choice but Lidl are doing half-price Tennents tomorrow only - 49p a can.  Not sure how that compares with the other supermarket prices.
