Stephen Hunt has branded Eamon Dunphy a 'skinny little rat' after the pundit described Ireland's performance in drawing with Italy as 'shameful'.

Speaking ahead of the final World Cup qualifier against Montenegro, Hunt was critical of a few pundits who, in his words, 'say stuff for the sake of saying it - to be the bad cop.'

However, most of his frustration was aimed at Eamon Dunphy. Hunt explained: 'People in the press write columns. I know one or two of them do it and they generally don't turn up here.

'That's the truth of it but they say things for the sake of it and you think, what are they doing? What are they trying to achieve? Sell more newspapers or get more viewers? It's ridiculous.

'Where do they get their kicks from? And especially Dunphy, he should know better by now. He's a skinny rat, a skinny little rat.'

I not a huge Dunphy, but calling someone a skinny little rat is poor IMO. No one ever criticised any of these players personnally just there football performance. Calling Dunphy that is personal and I think uncalled for. Criticising Dunphys analysis would be better.

Dunphy is just tellin it the way it is.  He'll not have any splinters in his arse like a few of you's boys   

Hunt was one of Dunphys men, a good honest player from a good country backround, give it everything and troubled the opposition. Now I'd guess he'll be a headcase chicken, poor discipline and a liability to the team 

Dunphy may not get splitters from the fence but he'd knock his balls from the amount of fence jumping he does. If its popular opinion, he'll jump to the unpopular side.

I like the fact that they aren't scared to say what they think, rather than just sitting there all nice like the BBC and Sky, however do you not remember Dunphy getting personal over the Keane leaving Utd saga, in which he announced an English journalist had no right to question Keane cos the fella left his wife and kids and ran off with 'a young one' as he announced on live TV, far worse than what anyone has ever said about Dunphy.

if it was anyone else i 'd normally argee with you, but dunphy isnt above giving personal abuse himself.
Hunt would prob have been better to hold his council, but dunphy def needs called into line from time to time.
His criticism of the Ireland team all year has been very unfair and is more to be contoversial than anything else.
They may be an average group of footballers, but they are on the verge of maybe qualifing for a world cup and they have just drawn, and nearly dfeated the current world champions(fair enough an italy team on the way down, but still a decent international side)

I enjoy Dunphy to be honest probably becuse I'm not really a soccer fan -  but it's great entertainment when he's on  - the show would be a lot poorer if he wasn't on it.

dunphy was wrong to call the 2-2 draw with the current world champions as shameful. if we had drawn 2-2 at home to the Faroes in a vital qualifier now that would have been shameful. hunt is also wrong by calling him what he did. i guess 2 wrongs dont make a right.

If Dunphys ok to hand out personal abuse like that then he should be able to take personal abuse back, fair play to Hunt I say. He is skinny, he does kinda look like a rat, fair enough comment
