City getting a points deduction could be what saves uniteds bacon this year, especially if Spurs can get it together.

Relegation battle looks almost certain now and you wouldn't trust the majority of those players to battle themselves out of a wet paper bag and I don't see where any new manager bounce will come from.

The ownership purchasing land than investing in the team during the summer showed where their focus is. The new stadium is shades of Trump's ballroom and United have people as clueless running the club as Trump.

Ah I wouldn't worry, if they get a manager in who is their best mate they'll pull the finger out and get a few results. If they get a proper manager in who'll give off to then relegation beckons

People were saying the same for Spurs last season. Except there isn't a player at United with a relegation-pay cut clause in their contract. Meanwhile, for a couple of hundred opposing players, the single biggest day in their football career happens the first time they visit Old Trafford.

If they don't go straight back up, they'll go out of business.

They'd have to turf them  all out then,  start again. Bring in a  few lads  lower PL/ championship level who'll actually put in a shift. Would be interesting to  see how it goes.

They could end up circling the plughole for a  few seasons anyway  (like Villa/Newcastle did) so  relegation  could happen eventually.

I really couldn't give two  fecks . The club's gone.

Unlikely but I'm sure plenty of of big clubs thought the same.

The way they are at the minute, where do you see them getting wins?

Good to see the fans supporting Carrick and letting the players know what they are yesterday.

That would mean Conte is a no, plus he likes to play three at the back and can't see that happening again after Amorim.

Howe is the bookies favourite, did good work at Bournemouth and Newcastle, however, Newcastle was going stale towards the end for him. I like Howe as a Manager and seems a good guy, but going to this basket case may not be best for him.

Wages will be cheaper that the top level manager, no fee, available immediately, knows the league all in his favour.

Bruno be at Stamford Bridge at weekend with a big smile on face assisting a goal or two and all will be good again for a few months.

Did Howe do well at Newcastle? Started out pretty well and then they kind of fell off a cliff, no? Never became serious challengers.

He did Ok at the start yes, when they could spend a few quid, but then the restrictions hit.  I never felt that they had the squad to juggle Europe and the PL.

I'd say most Newcastle fans would have thought he had ran his race and it was time to go. I dont think he is the man to turn the United ship around.  Then again, they have tried every type of manager imaginable and nothing seems to work.

Qualified them for Champions League twice (first time since 2002), won their first cup in a very long time.  He had a win percentage of 43% (Keegan was 51%) so given that he took over when they looked destined for Championship I think he did well. As I said, it looked to be going stale towards end, so left at right time.

didnt realise they were 16th and only a point above the relegation zone. That said I just dont see 3 of those teams getting enough points to get above united

One win all year in the league ffs, pathetic stuff. They'll probably get the points against United!

Be surprised if Carrick isn't gone today, super player and seems a very nice fella but he's been hung out to dry by rotten owners and rotten player, definitely feel for him. (As much as it's possible to feel for a fella who'll get x million now when he gets the boot)

Which coincided with the Saudis coming in and pumping a load of money into them. Bruno Guimares arrived January 22 for example. They were solid, never took the next step and then went downhill under him.

FFP meant that they could not really get the top bracket players in Chelsea, Man City did 15/20 years ago.

They are 7th in net spend table over last 5 years so getting a cup and qualifying for champions league on a couple of occasions was a decent return.

Trying to compete on 4 fronts for Newcastle, Chelsea, Villa, Spurs, United has been difficult over the last number of years as don't seem to have squad to deal with this.

The role is going to be extremely difficult for whoever comes in, as they have tried every type of Manager and the club is rotten from top down.

I can see Carrick staying on , for now.

The tubes at the top  know from yesterday that the fans applauded Carrick off , and booed the players. So  they will ply  more pressure on themselves if they sack him. It's better for the head honchos if the manager is getting  the abuse as it lets them off the hook .

Better for them to leave things alone for now , and  if the poor run continues, hope  the  fans eventually turn on Carrick , so they can swoop in and sack him and save the day
