Get warmed up

The orange marches in the south should be all told to get to f**k. Why accommodate them at all.

Why? Do they bother anyone or does anyone give a f**k about them?

As tempting as that is we do need to compromise- if they're not being pricks about it and it's not contentious then let them at it, but any that are controversial at all should be banned.

Get warmed up

Why accommodate them, it's an outrageous tradition, the entire premise is "f**k Catholics". They took the piss in the north already with parades and now they are going to up it and try go down contentious routes from here on in. It's a sectarian organization that was tolerated as it was their "culture", but it's ridiculous, it's on par with the klan. Why they are let do anything in the south is ridiculous, I doubt an Ira march would be allowed in England.

Ireland is a "country" that espouses support for Palestine yet allows Israel to move its arsenal via Shannon.

The odd Orange march is hardly a big deal.

Wouldn't Carla and Jim just love that!

Anyway there's only 1 as far as I know and it doesn't bother anyone.

Aye in ideal world the whole thing would be banned. But I'm sure everyone one would settle with the contentious ones being banned and the ones that cause no hassle being left alone.

There's quite  a number  of orange halls in  Donegal Cavan and  Monaghan, and further afield.  Surely they have parades to their churches  during the year?  Rossnowlagh wouldn't be the only  parade

Never an eyelid batted if they do. You'd think the likes of those lodges are raging at Portadown/Bryson/Lockhart kicking up this fuss. Then again the brainpower probably isn't the greatest among that breed

From "history Ireland.com"

The only parade in the South was at Rossnowlagh. In 1970, however, the parade at Rossnowlagh was cancelled, owing to a threat made by Senator Bernard McGlinchey at a meeting of Donegal County Council. The matter was raised in the Dáil, where Desmond O'Malley, minister for justice, strongly backed the right of Donegal Orangemen to parade. In a remarkable speech for the time he declared:

'That these traditions are not those of the great majority in the locality in no way diminishes the right of those who adhere to them to express themselves. Rather does it place on the majority a special obligation to ensure that their right is respected and upheld and to ensure that it is seen to be a right and not something that is only tolerated.'

Nonetheless, the next parade at Rossnowlagh wasn't until 1978. At first the revived parade involved small numbers, but attendance grew, partly because it was held on the Saturday before the twelfth.....

Is there a change in the Parades Commission coming up soon? I read that somewhere recently.

Or is that just personnel on the panel?

But surely the whole rules and regulations of what is allowed etc. has to be updated to the context of 2026/27 compared to when it was first put together? If so, nationalist politicians should be all over that.

Anybody know what the story is?

So it was guns and bombs last week. This week it's the IRA are back. Unionism and some of the media really trying hard to reverse the massive Drumcree own goal. The IRA is a good one. The DUP will use that to bring down stormont but have no problem actually meeting up with loyalist paramilitaries and the LCC :o

Sir John O'Hara KC recently retired High Court judge has been appointed to conduct an investigation in to the operation of the Commission. I imagine his findings and recommendations will form part of any potential overhaul.
