Quote from: God14 on September 30, 2026, 09:10:39 AMSo back to the courts on Friday again.
If the community can hold the line until Friday, could we see a new court ruling in our favour?

Im a complete lay man in legal terms, but to me Fridays legal challenge could carry some weight. If the Garavghy Road residents association have the full PSNI assessment, and can point to the Parades commissioning not considering it in its entirely, could we get some success here?

A question directed to David here, is the "material misdirection" a high bar to get a court judge to intervene? Your judgement was bang on over the weekend, keen to know your thoughts

Given that the last 3 court cases haven't been decisive I doubt this one will either. The OO will just appeal the appeal and it will bounce through the courts. We still have the UK Supreme Court to get to and the ECHR.

DUP being lead by Jamie Bryson is a really bad for unionism or maybe it's ok. I don't know what to think.

If any future courtroom appearances were to be scheduled between 9am and 10.30am any week day, JB would have to prioritise the Nolan Show, it's his bread and butter.

I can't see Bryson being the brains behind this, unless he's done a keyezer soze level of deception and acted the clown prior.

I know people who know Bryson. They say he is actually quite good at quoting the law around certain things. I know things about his personal life too and he has been 'associated' with a pretty prominent journalist and named in the divorce papers of a fairly well respected barrister. Both these individuals have been directly or indirectly involved in many of the legal processes that he has been involved in.

He did his law degree through the OU. The examination process is online with limited supervision. He is close to a  number of very senior counsel. Perhaps he is just the patsy for the people defined it.

I think Bryson is a useful patsy, but it would be very silly and short sighted to assume he's an idiot. He's not Johnnie Cochran but he at least generally understands the fundamental legal principles of whatever he's blathering on about. I think he has a post-grad from UU (hard to override the muscle memory of typing Jordanstown) on top of his law degree.

For example, he's evidently considerably more intelligent than some regular posters on this thread.

I had wondered how long this was going to take to be referenced. Given that it's a fairly openly discussed in legal and political circles

The other dynamic is the SOS is petulant since the Celtic independence get together. He already undercut the Sinn Fein minister when she announced the £63 electricity relief much to the delight of Unionists, and then he used the language of Bryson/Lockhart when he said they wouldn't bow to "Mob Rule", essentially calling the residents a mob, while Dawson with his mop of white hair is being portrayed as a nayce old Christian Orangeman who just wants to follow the law.

It speaks to the general complacency of Shinners who love to point out how dumb the other side is.

Kind of our equivalent of "owning the libs".

Meanwhile the "libs" are organised and focused on narrow objectives.

I was going to ask on here, what does Bryson actually do for a living - what's his actual paid job - and what qualifications does he have to be advising on legal matters.  Didn't realise he had those qualifications, just assumed he was 'self taught'.  He might have some qualifications, but he's not a qualified solicitor is he?
That's just, like your opinion man.

Legal consultancy and advocacy.

He hasn't completed any legal training as far as I know, so is neither a qualified (or even trainee I don't think) solicitor or barrister.

No,  he has applied to the Bar to my knowledge but is neither training as a solicitor or barrister. He has a degree and a Masters but is well connected with certain parts of the legal world. Ironically he has done work with Phoenix Law who are representing the residents.

It wasn't really relevant I suppose. It's no coincidence that this person is now being briefed in all these cases.
