How many hurling clubs in Down?

Derry's is far from ideal and a lot of other counties complain about it. It was changed this year to a different format but nobody knows why or who done it.

There's a bigger gap in Down between top and bottom. Portaferry would put 40 points (or more) on some of the junior sides in Down no problem. Liatroim beat Ballela out the gate in the intermediate last year after Ballela getting decent results in the group games.

And...?

Swatragh put 35 pts on Eoghan Rua and Sleacht Néill put 30+ points on Na Magha and Banagher - who were in the 'Intermediate' Final on Sunday past.

My point being that really Derry 'senior' clubs are into Ulster Intermediate and Junior competitions. Not ideal, but would that template not be a good fit for Down?

What good is that for the junior & intermediate clubs, while it's not ideal I bribe the county are trying to to raise standards at all levels
We would see teams pack it in, seems to be a good push at juvenile level with new teams starting  and good numbers with them. Putting the shc sides down will only harm progress

I was being kind saying Portaferry would put 40 points on some clubs. Derry don't really have junior clubs and the fact that the intermediate champions from last year are junior champions this year is mad. That was the same a few years ago when Ballela got beat in the Ulster Junior final by the Derry winners.

The junior and intermediate together seems to have worked ok this year - maybe that should be junior and junior A going forward and the intermediate final comes from the lower teams in the senior groups to help with Ulster championships.

Kilclief hurlers championship fixture on Saturday and footballers semi final on Monday. Absolute nonsense.

I'll say it again after tonight's game, what is going on with the referees in Down?

Why so?
As a neutral watching that game last night I didn't think there was anything that the ref got wrong. The last play where he blew Guinness up for charging was correct I thought.

Last call on Guinness was spot on, but thought he was very hard on carryduff all night

Kilcoo Burren a decent contest. Burren not taking easy option and its gonna cost them

Burren lead by 1.

Goal in 61st min Burren knock Kilcoo out.

Classic game. No two pointers but 4-14 to 1-18 with 2 mins left

Would Liatroim count as a junior side now? That's some hammering Portaferry gave them

Fourth best team in the county. Unsure how semis work but I would say they may meet again there?

Good to see a novel pairing in senior final after years of dominance from Kilcoo.

Kilcoo won't like to hear it, but it's about time. Our clubs, our county, our happiness depends on chance.

Well done Burren.
