QuoteIf the court case changes nothing, do the residents sit down on the road on Sunday morning, and what do the police do then?  I can't see PSNI dragging people off the road so do they usher orangemen down the side? In a certain way it's actually farcical.
It's a pity young people are being exposed to it.  All the shite in the 90's was just depressing and dangerous.
I have a feeling  they will do a sit down protest. Thousands  of people, coming in from  the surrounding areas.

although they'll probably have the road  cordoned off with land rovers  and riot gear police. It'll take a lot of  effort to keep them  out though

Thousands of people conveys a message of orchestrated protest, while the residents actually aren't bothered. A few locals would be better.

Why did they allow it?

PC are required to consider each application on the basis of the circumstances as they exist at the time of the application  The fact that wasn't being done was one of the criticism led in the case over the summer.

I am hearing there may have been a jurisdictional issue regarding timing that was overlooked. That may form a large part of the challenge

Cops didn't do much about the mosque in Moygashel but will pen in nationalists to let a KKK march down the street.

But how does that change the decision David?

Like, what has changed from before, say 20 years ago?

A sad day for the north... A shocking decision which will escalate no doubt

BBC Red Lines have said human rights laws have changed. EU conventions etc.

Well I meant locals too. A small number of  locals would easily be  removed. Thousands or nothing

If it goes ahead offer them tea and biscuits and welcome them to Garvaghy.
They won't be able to handle it at all.

Your solution is appeasement. Tug the forelock and say thank you.

Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. As much as I'd love to see them beat off the road that'd only give them exactly what they want. Peaceful protest with residents sitting in the road is probably the best way forward

Duine Inteacht Eile

There have been a number of ducks lined up in a row ahead of this by the pan-orange-front.

Notably, for the past 2 years now they have applied, been granted permission and successfully marched (and returned?) past Ardoyne shops with barely a whimper of protest. This was a similar contentious sectarian march which saw violent scenes over the years and was subsequently banned for a long time. It is very apparent that the opposition to it has waned. The Parades Commission are watching this, the cops are watching this.... So now on to the next one....

The point is that it's a new decision every time within the discretion of the commissioners. What's happened before does not bind future commissioners and two panels can consider the same case and arise at opposite but equally correct decisions.

It's conjecture but some of my friends were saying earlier that one of the key points is that the notice of the procession was not made with the necessary 28 days notice. Now that can be abridged for a number of reasons but the point is that the issue was missed and therefore there was no consideration if there existed a lawful reason to abridge time. In the absence of that the Commissioners may not have had jurisdiction to consider the application. So the point is that the case should be sent back to begin the process again. I'm not suggesting that will work but if true it may form a large part of the challenge.
