The night was not helped by the second last bout ending in a farcical short time. This left RTE recycling the "Isn't Katie great and there'd be no women in sport only for her" to a point where many of us lost the will to live.

It's hard to remember back now to Katie in her amateur days. In those days mostly she brought pride wearing the green jersey.
The professional boxing game always feels different. You're fighting for yourself and to fill the coffers. That doesn't mean you are still not flying the flag - but it doesn't feel as wholesome.

Anyway thanks Katie for all the great memories and enjoy retirement and family life.

I have had no  interest really in Katie Taylor's career or  women's boxing.  I didn't even know it was live until  someone told  me a few hours before, so I  tuned in purely for the occasion.

It was a strange night. A  bit like St Patrick's day, up for the match and BBC NI's All Ireland final half time celebrity chat,  all rolled into one  big weird extravaganza.

The boxing itself wasn't  great. The commentators seemed to see  Taylor  punches landing that nobody else could see.  Pili didn't offer much going forward but she kept Taylor out particularly in early rounds.

Then you had the crowds  shots.  Fake tan, turkey teeth, lip fillers (And that was just the men), selfies/recording  everything on their phones.  Although AI finals are  the same now.

There was an average of 973,000 viewers plus 552,000 streams via the RTÉ player.

For comparison, RTÉ's peak viewing figures of the Ireland v Czechia World Cup playoff also hit 1.6 million people at peak time.
