Quote from: p3427977 on September 05, 2026, 06:59:42 PMLavey are very poor.

They weren't great but they only lost by 2. That was probably more to do with Newbridge though. They need to sort out their kickouts if they are to do three in a row.

Lavey decided to show up a bit late before they had a go.

Matthew Downey very poor I thought in comparison to Oisin Doherty, Eamon Young on Bridge side. If your are or pushing to be county standard need more leadership qualities than that.

Can't believe Lavey management thought throwing in Oisin Mulholland against the County champions was sensible. A classic case of we are here for a short time only.

Newbridge Exile

That must have been an enjoyable game for the neutral and it looked as if it Lavey were going to take it at the end but thankfully  we held out , hopefully the three week break will give us a chance to get some key players back to fitness

Brendan

Busy few weeks for the Dual men, all Dual clubs needing the back door

Agreed Lavey left it too late also thought their substitutions seemed a bit desperate.

Maybe not a good night for Downey but thought he performed well for the county before getting injured this year.

Is Toner injured?

Thought Swa & Loup was poor game

McWilliams pushed Swatragh over the edge with abit of nice fielding and grit, set up the goal. Fitness just wouldn't be there but a poor game really.

Lavey with some monster scores from Downey and Sargent albeit the pressure is off when your backs that far up the wall. Newbridge just get key possession and scored when required as usual. Downey done alright I thought for having Shane McGrogan on him, I've seen that lad marshall bigger names.

Laveys run started after they manufactured an advanced free, that handing the ball back is an absolute nonsense at times

He not fit cause he bck about 6/7 weeks after not playing fball near 2yrs.

Yes big step up in quality between the games. I think Lavey have the quality to play a far higher tempo game. That half back line is as good as anyone in the county.

Ciaran Henry is a top player, I thought Matthew had poor evening as I said but he is a good player. Midfield big and very mobile.

Conor Mc Ateer was superb I thought, he's a massive leader always looking to create something, almost impossible to man mark with his movement.
The speed and aggression Newbridge break out of defense is the template for alot if teams, yes they have some top players but its the work rate. I reckon Conor Doherty sprinted the full length of that pitch close to 8/10 times tonight.

Topmarks

I expected more of Lavey. I thought they were poor for the majority of the game and then hit a barrage of 2 pointers towards the end of the game which gave Newbridge a bit of a scare.

I thought Newbridge played some good stuff and I wouldn't mind seeing Shane and Conleth McGrogan get a look with Derry next year.

Yep, Cahair O'Kane went on a abit of downer in his latest article there about all these Derry clubs running the ball and not kicking. I don't see why a team like Newbridge wouldn't run it, very athletic and well co-ordinated moving forward

It is Ciaran Hendry. Lavey got turned over at the very end of the first half resulting in a two pointer. Coach mouthed off to linesman giving away a tap over free and the chance to press the Newbridge kick out immediately after the goal. They played the first half as if the 2 pointer didn't exist both in closing down Newbridge and in taking shots. Second half better but errors on the line cost them. Throwing a minor in at half time 5 days after a final and presumably some celebrations wasn't a great idea. Bringing on E Magill and F Bradley to add a bit of strength did seem to turn things, perhaps they should have been the ht changes.
Newbridge very direct shooting wayward at the start but once they got it together they looked very good. 2nd half, especially last 20, they played a lot like Lavey in the first with aimless possession, at which point they looked nothing special. Deserved winners but a couple of minutes more and I think they would have lost it.

Lavey got a 2 pointer the last 4 minutes that was comfortably 2 foot wide on the opposite side from the seated stand.  Jack McKaigue flagged it whilst he was standing 2 metres from the post. 🤷 The linesman told the ref it was wide. Linesman like myself adamant. He actually shouted to crowd he told the ref it was wide. Shocking decision
