Of the two management teams interviewed, the best man for the job. Brings experience, let's hope he has learned from his two sojourns with the u20, underachieved in those two campaigns, difficult age group to manage with everything that's expected of the players!
Hopefully a fresh outlook on how players are used and made available to clubs; improve club leagues, improve the county team. Can't be rocket science.

Would love to see a sensible approach to player availability for club but dont recall there being huge flexibility with the u20s

Well weren't the U20s told it was all hands to the pump for the B championship when Meath beat them, a mutiny was on the cards until he saw some sense.

Not sure you can say he saw sense, he was backed into a corner by the players. The tail was wagging the dog.

Not sure who all is on his management team, rumours are that it's the same right hand men from the u20 set up;
Cormac Donnelly, Brian mc fall and Kevin Martin. Not sure if Greg o Kane is involved or for that matter Johnny mc Intosh. I'd be interested to see if he takes his old right hand man Stevie mc Garry along.

It's interesting that there doesn't seem to have been much interest from outside the county. Maybe that's just a reflection of where Antrim hurling is at the minute.

That said, I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. A home grown manager who understands the county, the clubs, the players and the challenges we face could be exactly what's needed.

For too long we've looked elsewhere for answers. Maybe now is the time to back one of our own, give them proper support, patience and the resources to build something over a number of years rather than expecting overnight success.

New manager deserves the backing of everyone involved. If we're serious about moving Antrim back up the pecking order, it'll take more than just changing the name on the manager's office door.

From what I have understood there were at least two candidates from the South that had expressed an interest but these were not brought forward for interview.

Also from what I understand, it was Mickey McShane and his u20 ticket that was being brought forward, this was to include Stephen McGarry as well. At this point it is not really known though how many of that backroom team will be committing going forward. I think there could be at least one and potentially 3 not going on with them, but time will tell.

Whilst an impressive haul, Ian paisley would have won the Derry championships with the players at his disposal. In my opinion, He under achieved in Ulster with that group of players. And before the begrudgers get going, take a look at the finals he lost, completely negative, mind boggling tactics.

i tend to agree with jc, we've to give him a chance and actually have no choice but to do so. i was optimistic about DF when he came in and probably said the same thing then - some egg in my face from that.

wish mcshane all the best - just hope he doesnt make a balls of it is probably a better way of putting it and gets us a day out in croker for a joe mcd final so we can all get pished in dublin
