They can believe it all they want. Its a pretty lame claim they have, Northern Ireland it certainly isn't and you don't see the republic team running around with banners at an England match embarrassing themselves

That's when the real problems could start for the anti English.

England players definitely technically as good as most. Is their biggest issue not the attritional nature of their league so they are all goosed by the time a tournament comes around. Their two best players play in other leagues.

They can't control a game and never could. Never had the midfield for it. They are good players on individual merits but Spain, France, Italy can control a game's tempo.

Did anyone read that Irish Times article than the reason Brazil are rubbish now is because most of their players are evangelical Protestant and were majority Catholic nation when winning World Cups. Two Catholic nations in final (give or take a Muslim or two) . Maybe England need to ditch the boring auld Church of England.

I read that and seen a TikTok about it was very interesting. England need a good dose of Catholicism before 2030 and maybe they'll win

It was by Ken Early from second captains and he was at least half taking the piss. However they had Tim Vickery (Brazil based for 30+ years) on a couple of days later and brought it up with him and he suggested there may be a kernel of truth. He described evangelical Protestantism as "the death of culture", which I thought was terrific.

This is an unbelievable shout. Just goin back through the winners I. My head nearly every year I can think of is a catholic country only exception being Germany which is secular but i think Catholicism would be up there as the biggest!

Up to England scoring they contained any threat Messi had, then after that allowed him to sit on the right wing and have influence on the game, he took every corner on the right wing the same? And they allowed it, it was obviously a training ground exercise but they switched off..

Inviting a team that good to push you back the large square for 20 odd minutes defending was never really going to end well

Taking Gordon off and going to a back 5 meant that there was no extra cover on that wing which completely freed up Messi,  and idiotic move.  If they were going to a back 5 I would have kept Gordon on but taken off Rice and gone to 3-4-3 with it going to 5 when out of possession.  That would have closed the space down on the wing but they went to a straight back 5 and tried to Tony Pulis the win!
