I'd imagine finance is the main obstacle to county coaches being in and around clubs plenty.

But what would it take to at least come in and work with groups and set out some sort of season development plan, training plans etc on a case by case basis?

Some clubs or teams within clubs might feel they don't need it but a lot could benefit.

Parents are essential everywhere but they are often also a weakness.  End up following teams and learning the true requirements for each level as they go.  Need more than that.
By County coaches do you mean Gerard McNulty? top coach but not sure if he is attached to any of the development squads. If so I agree, Owen Doherty with the minors is very good, but other than that the 'county' coaching looks pretty abysmal to me. Dads taking teams and bringing 3-4 of their own clubs sub standard players in to their set ups. I seen a club who are bottom of their league with 4 players in a county squad! Was talking to a Derry coach who met Antrim on their travels somewhere at games this year at one of the Dev squad ages and the reports back were that our set up from the top down to the squad itself was a total shambles.
For me Antrim need to invest in placing a High Level coach at in each of their development squads. Otherwise you get what we are getting now, and that is total crap. Parents will always be taking club teams, its the way it is, but county teams - come on lets get real!!

Realistically, there's not a long queue of volunteers who want to take these roles on so they probably need to put some money into it to attract people to do it. If the numbers are true of what the likes of Davy Fitz was getting for coaching the hurlers, if you split that over juvenile set ups you'd soon get a higher standard interested but obviously the whole payment thing is a murky area.

The payment thing is easy, they are paid coaches for the Ulster or Antrim boards and paid to do a job, be assessed on their performances and reevaluated yearly..

Put a policy in place that parents can't look after teams that have families involved, that cuts out the nepotism to a degree, though leaves open club bias, but hey ho, hard to keep everyone happy

If players, parents matched the passion that some of the coaches bring to the games then we'd be on the right track, personally I'd prefer academy's to development squads, have that tiered approach that they have to be 'elite' to get to that standard

Any word on the relegation play offs?

NatSoSaff

Is there any point in playing them? What about the claims on here a while back that the league structure was changing next year?

NatSoSaff

The whole thing is a farce top to bottom. League winners confirmed for how long now? Not a single congratulatory post/story on any form of Antrim GAA social media or website. Not even a trophy presentation. Its not hard lads, really it isn't. Promote the game.

I'm a million percent certain I seen photos of them celebrating winning the league, not sure where but...

Also, no one is interested, well that's all we hear on this board ;)

I'm sure they'll wait till to see how the championship groups turn out before choosing who gets to stay up in both.

If St Endas are running riot in div 2, what happens if they do the double? Didn't this happen a few years ago where one team won both and only one team went up to div 1?

There were no discussions or proposals from the football (non)development committee, on Monday evening

NatSoSaff

Rubbish, it's a farcical league structure with little to no meaning for the vast majority of clubs. It needs addressing now, not in 2028. Allow the league standings from this year to inform who is categorised into each division. Keeps it fair.

2 of the teams in the bottom 4 have one more game this Sunday (refixed from a rained off night), presume it needs to wait until after that.

Yes cause those results obviously determines who plays who in the semis
Any of those 4 positions can still change, although it is quite likely, going by form, that it will stay as it is, leaving the following

Glenravel v Moneyglass
Sarsfields v Randalstown

I think these are neutral venues
They were 2 years ago anyway

Last years didn't happen due to Ahoghill forfeiting.

The Div 1 league is a farce, little more than challenge games. Creggan romped it and i am not even sure they took it that seriously.  There was little fanfare about it as very few people cared or care about it now due to the mess our board have made of it.

I fully agree the coaching in these development squads has to improve.  my experiences of it are that we are light years behind the likes of derry and tyrone in the quality of people taking it and we have to get away from the Dads taking it.
While there are good quality players in there, a sizeable portion of each squad are taken up by dad's clubmates or the son's pals taking undeserved places. Some coaches, and I stress not all, aren't in it to improve Antrim football but to say Junior is a county player.

Parents will always be involved in club coaching but at county level we have to strive to have better. Perhaps this was a Gaelfast opportunity - yes promote the game in the schools but spend the money on improving the underage coaching across the board

You know the clubs voted on this? People complaining about the county board, knowing it was the clubs that do it themselves, while having the same conversation every year but its still the county board at fault!

I don't think that's 100% true MR2

As the old saying goes, turkeys don't vote for Christmas. Clubs will never vote on something that's impacting them negatively despite it being in the greater interest.

The county board own the competition and have responsibility to ensure its quality is  upheld. Now i won't be saying they where right or wrong, I wasn't in the room and without discussion or rehashing how we got here I'd be genuinely interested in hearing people's thoughts on what needs improved and how this is achieved

With regards the development committee, again, who's left and where is it at? Does this fall under the remit of the coaching officer in the county now?

I've no idea of the dynamics of the group but would be interested in learning.

I'm going to say that the clubs put proposals to the the county, they are voted on and passed or deferred, or defeated

Some are amended and passed, but any, any changes to the leagues, the format and how many teams are involved in it, is done by the clubs, of course turkeys are not going to vote for xmas, but that's the way it is and should be..

If the GAA boarders what change, here's a few simple tips, join a club, pay your membership, go to the AGM's, join the committees, put in a proposal, speak to other clubs, gauge opinions and amend if possible present to the county at county convention and going through those channels, may, if voted on will be passed if the majority are happy with it
