That's not much good for:

- developing younger players.
- keep older lads playing a year or two longer.

In a year or so, I think reserve football will be a thing of the past.

Anybody know why? Is it lack of players now at senior level (too serious) or just lads couldn't be bothered anymore?

3rd is popular now, the intensity if senior training isn't appealing to the casual player who maybe just wants to play a bit of reserve football.

This new idea of playing reserves after the senior match isn't helping either, anytime I've seen it about 40% of the crowd will have left with another 40% leaving as the traffic clears leaving a very tame atmosphere and matches with zero intensity

I saw that's the timings of a lot of them games Brendan.

My take on it was that some of these players were needed as subs for the senior game, hence it being played first.

Then the reserve game played after senior game.

I saw a fairly solid senior team who had a bench of about 15 players but couldn't field a reserve team. They were sitting in and around the dugout. Was thinking why were they not playing a reserve game afterwards.

Any injury news ahead of saturday? is James Sargent, matthew downey, dan higgins available?

Seeing the results at the weekend should fill us with belief, no reason we cant ambush them

Let's hope we have a full pick and if we do I wouldn't mind one or two changes to freshen it up for a few boys who haven't hit form.

I would have Rogers on Conaty, McCloskey on McMullen and McKinless on Turbitt as my match ups. Everyone else to keep zonal and pick up when they get towards our 45. This game is winnable, but need a performance to get it over the line.

Rogers surely not on Conaty? Would Baker or McCloskey not be best bet?

Clucky - Conaty
Turbitt - CD
Murnin- Rogers

In my opinion

I would expect Mc Closkey - Conaty,
CD - Mc Mullan, Forbes - Turbitt.
Baker - Mc Conville.

On the opposite end Mc Cabe with get job of tagging Shane.

This game will be won and lost between Armagh half back line and our half forward line. If we stop that Armagh initial fast break that totally relights on Burns, Kelly, and probably mc Quillian we'll win.
Absolutely one if the top 4 teams in the country but we should have no fear of.

Can't see this happening McCabe has played most of his football in the half forward line this year and has been good there.

I suspect will be Paddy Burns or McKay will get the job or possibly McCambridge if a curve ball is thrown to start him.

I'm basing this off the fact that Loughlin and Murray have alot better seasons so I expect them to get more man marking attention. Mc Cabe floats around the half back/midfield role where I think Shane spends a fair bit of time.

Jarlath Og at midfield will be surely just be to mark Conor Glass.

Barry Mc Cambridge very poor man marker, new rules haven't been good for his inter county career.
Rory Grugan coming on with 20mins to go may well decide the game.

Burns likes the free role. Drifting up and down the field.

Mc Guigan may have to 'mark' him.

Why would this be? JOB has contributed significantly to Armagh's attacking play this year, he may be paired up against Glass but it certainly won't be be a direct man marking job.  Burns scored 0-04 off Murdock in the Down game who would be a bigger attacking threat than Glass.

In relation to McCambridge, he has had a long spell on the sidelines and has went toe to toe with plenty of top forwards in the past an all star full back in 2024 on All Ireland Winning team, so not sure how you can say he's a very poor man marker.

We need a big performance from Shane. His form has been patchy all year. I think party due to coming back late from Hurling but also as he has played around midfield a lot of the time. Regardless his shooting and decision making on the ball have to improve if we are to have a chance.

James Sargent named in the squad for Armagh.
