Times have fairly changed and here we are facing the new Connacht champions as underdogs.
Yes there is always so much talk about Tyrone and their never ending stream of talented underage footballers but ye Rossies are the new kids on the block.
Minor, U20 and senior Connacht winners in one season and a huge crowd of passionate supporters behind them, Roscommon are no longer one of the whooping boys of GAA.

Yes they still need to win a big game in Croke Park but they showed Tyrone two years ago that they have a different mindset now and arent just dependant on one or two good players. With an excellent intelligent manager at the helm and a nice mixture of youth and experience, they have really taken to these new rules and seem a lot more suited to them than Tyrone are.

Yes we still have a good squad, many with one All-Ireland medal in their pockets but we seem to be lacking hunger, drive, ambition a plan to play to our strengths. Have we got back to the day of too many talented but small players that struggle to win their own ball or easily marked.

Most Tyrone fans go to games now not knowing what sort of Tyrone will turn up. We have become the Jeckyl and "Hyde" of GAA. We beat Donegal and the Dubs last year but we see now how poor the Dubs are this year. The more optimistic Tyrone fans will have seen enough in Armagh to think we can raise our game again and beat Roscommon but I am not so sure. They beat a very strong Galway team who had most of their big guns playing for them. They beat Mayo well a few weeks before and I see Mr Gough is referee who has no time for Tyrone whatsoever.

I'm talking Roscommon up because I think they are a real good side now and these new rules seem to be suiting some teams with bigger men who play direct football.

Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

QuoteThe ambush is over now for Roscommon. They are out front and centre. How will they handle it?
If they beat Tyrone, then Roscommon need to enter the All-Ireland discussion. But Tyrone will love the build-up to this game, because they get the chance to set the trap. Roscommon must be careful not to become the ambushed
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Roscommon are now 5th favourites for the All-Ireland at 16/1, after Galway and Armagh 11/1.
Tyrone are 25/1

I had typed yerra earlier but I deleted it haha.

If this game was in Croker I'd be a lot more confident but with us having very poor support now and the Hyde will be noisy.

Re Tyrone's team there is still a few injuries about I've heard but hopefully we get a big game from K&K at midfield and McKernan and McGeary start getting back to themselves. Mattie was excellent v Armagh and hopefully Jordan kicks on from his good league showing.

As Donie Smith said, Tyrone are coming to the Hyde with a chip on their shoulder. They will rightly feel a bit disrespected by the media, which is mainly the result of a poor Division 2 campaign, on the back of getting demoted on 7 points in Div 1 last year (ridiculous when you think about it). They were a top 4 team last year in the championship, almost took out Armagh in Ulster this year, and they have more talent coming through than any other county. The problem for us is that we won Connacht beating two Div 1 teams, and now face a Div 1 team in all but name in the All-Ireland series. In the past we have not been able to sustain intense games, and have been there for the taking even when favourites (eg defeat to Kildare and Cork after beating League Champions Mayo and drawing with eventual All-Ireland champions Dublin), so it will be interesting to see how we deal with 3 big teams on the trot. And even after all that, not within an asses roar of an All-Ireland 1/4 final. That said, I'd be quietly confident of a close enough win. As for Gough, well he reffed Roscommon Tyrone in the inaugural Super 8s and we got an almighty hammering in Croke Park. Hopefully he lets the game flow (not in his nature I know), the new rules are at their best when refs are not overly fussy.

I'd be interested in this also, as you only get 6/1 on Betfair. Not so good as 2024, when I got 33/1 on Betfair  ;D

Perhaps 11/2 was intended, as usual Kerry are not great value.

Saw it on the Irish News website this morning.
Oops you're right Galway 11/1, Armagh 11/2. Boylesports
Donegal 4/1 and Kerry 13/8

Yeah Gough has ruined plenty of our games and others as tends to be way to fussy.
I'd say he loves the move it up the field 50 yards rule.
I know what you mean Wearos but ye are playing at a higher tempo now and showed against Galway that ye can go behind and respond. We were pleasantly surprised we did the same and brought Armagh to ET.

I just hope we take the shackles off a bit and stop playing so cautiously with very slow attacks and recycling galore waiting for the perfect shooting opportunity. Yer No 12 is a class player. Forget his name. So fast and can run all day.

We face a step up on Sundayv as we enter Competition number 3 of 2026.
A decent Div 1 NFL campaign, a Provincial Championship won has us in a decent place.....BUT
16 teams start level in this new race.
Let us hope we can park Nestor and that the lads will be prepped to meet the higher level we now enter.

Was surprised to see there are still tickets available for this.
Can understand Tyronians not going AGAIN but thought the Rossies would be mad to see this game.

I see it's on GAA+.

Roscommon should win this. Tyrone didn't even play well against Armagh in my opinion, they were shocking in the first half, just dragged Armagh down into a dog fight really.

Roscommon on the other hand had a good league and deserving winners against two good teams in Mayo and Galway. Seem to have got good depth in the panel now and playing well for a long time rather than the flash in the pan it's been in previous years. I think they should arrive confident and it would be a blow if this version of Tyrone turn them over, I genuinely expect a Rossie victory on the day

Not sure how Rossies will cope with the favourites tag, seem to have built a very good panel there at the minute. Problem could be if Tyrone can drag them into a dogfight they'll get it tight, heat at the weekend could play a part.

Captain Obvious

Six weeks since Tyrone played must be the longest of long grass Tyrone have laid in? The panel could grow some decent beards in that time.

Roscommon certainly need to be ready for an ambush and be ready for a Tyrone team to use every trick and dark arts possible to get themselves over the line.
