Would need some number of cash filled brown paper bags to get anything substantial built on that site in that location.

My God, they are planning to flatten the Bot.

Do young ones not go there anymore?

No. I was in on a friday night on november past and full of pool tables plus barely anyone there. (Not much had changed since i was a regular over 20 years ago).

End of an era that.

In fairness, Friday night wouldn't have been a traditional student night. It was always fully of Derry and Tyrone ones in my time but that wasn't yesterday.

Sure going by all the reports Belfast is already over subscribed with student accommodation. Another hotel might make more sense.

I picked the young fella and his class mates up outside the BOT last year, it was after a school formal and there was absolutely no one about the place like there used to be.

I presume the Cathedral quarter has taken all that trade now.

There's those student accommodation places near that side of Belfast so quite possibly. The eldest is due to go to uni in September so no doubt ill hear soon enough where the craic is nowadays. The most common one i hear now is the Hatfield.

Kremlin and Telegraph are the big spots down in town given their proximity to the student accommodation (and UU). Limelight and Hatfield still a big draw for freshers up the other end. The young fella and his mates also frequent Darragh's off York St. for cheap pints.

Ah the aul Bot, its had its day unfortunately, location location location... Mid 80's it was outta Belfast City center which had a ring of steel around it and closed around 7pm at night, so the options for students were limited..

Wed nights when I was 16 through to early 20's and Sundays for the first of the Super Sundays during the hey days of the PL, wife (girlfriend at the time) was pouring me into the car, god knows why she stuck around!

A question she has asked herself many times!

The old Bot with the bar in the middle upstairs and the tiny dancefloor was a great spot for laps back in the day. I think it was in the process of being replaced when I was in first year, 1994-1995. with the Bot, the Eg, QUBSU, the old Fly and The Elms just down the road, that part of town was heaving mid- to late-90s.

I remember the old Bot before it was 'burned' down, the kids were upstairs but the locals mainly used the pub downstairs, which from memory was frequented by police, or I can remember that being said at the time.. the old dance floor upstairs had a Saturday night fever look to it..

When it was first done up I remember they had a drinks machine that did bottle beers! place was packed out and it was free in..

The Egg got the overspill and the Wellyboot didn't do as well during the week but a pure cattle market at the weekends..

Loads of memories from a non student!
