Villa superb from the first minute. Intensity and intent.

There seems to be lots of tension at Real Madrid. Rudiger losing the plot on the training ground, and then today Valderde was knocked out by Tchouaméni.

Villa were top class for the full 90. It's not often that you can say that. Sharp all over the pitch.

A word on John McGinn. He makes everything tick with this side. He sets the tone and demands that be met by all. Pound for pound, I am struggling to think of a better Villa signing.

Bit mad alright. Throw in Mbappe on a cruise with his girfriend into the mix also and surely Barca are favourites to beat them at the week-end.

And also a potential return of Jose into the frying pan. The whole thing could get a lot more crazy next season.

Seems to be absolutely poisonous that boy. Done PSG no harm at all getting rid of him.

Actually think Jose is the right person to go in there. There'll be no f**king about with him, and after Valverde being hospitalised by Tchouameni I think Perez will let him go in with free rein.

Mourinho is categorically not the right person for Madrid or any other big club. He's 10 years past his sell by date.

Winning is mandatory at Madrid, not a bonus. He can't walk in, burn the place down and win.

Which will make everything all the more hilarious when they appoint him.

If I said something was Black you'd say it was white

Possibly, but also you're just wrong.

If the Madrid blazers want a match taken to the place he is very much the right man. Apparantly they are in talks.

However that is a very expensive demolition job. Benfica will need paying, he won't get out of bed for less than €20m a year and brings an entourage.

He was the catalyst for the golden era, they'd be aware of that and willing to risk the same short term pain for long term gain, for me its born to fail, the fire can't be burning as bright as back then, he should go into international management next with Portugal England or Italy if they'd have him

Arbeloa has lost the dressing room, and even him being internally promoted was an aberattion. They seem to think Mourinhio will crack skulls and slay some sacred cows. Short term shock tactics with a view to him staying on if it works.

But it's going to cost them €50m to do. And he has left every club since his last Real stint the same or worse off.

I don't disagree, they had an almighty run, they don't accept anything less but what goes up must come down, they do need someone to drive a reset, they had a manager with a 70% win rate and binned him off, they're between 2 stools, rising again or suffering an with mediocrity, would prefer the latter, need brought down a peg or 10
