Would ye whist

This may be a little bit insignificant given the other issues on this thread, however I have been trying to incorporate different exercises into my life and have been trying to lift some weights, problem is my back tweaks when I try to do row lifts etc, is it possible to do weights which will help with upper body strength without focusing on the back?

Smaller weights and more reps is the only way to go. Also, look at why you back tweaks and incorporate exercises into helping with that.

Been through this, you have to put ego aside.

Yeah was going to say smaller weight more reps, but wanted someone saying that first lol

Also get yourself to Pilates and yoga to help maybe iron out some of those tweaks
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

The back is a cĂșnt if it goes on you.

I did mine in on New years day, ended up having to get an ambulance as I couldn't get up of the floor.

Was on the penthrox inhaler initially as it was the only way the ambulance crew could get me off the floor, great stuff altogether and then onto the morphine for the next few days  in hospital while they scanned me for signs of any spinal issues.
All clear, but got me doing more than sitting on my arse 10 plus hours a day and started going to pilates classes which helped no end.
I've only escalated to the rowing machine and a pull down thingy and wouldn't be looking at weights for a while yet.

Reformer Pilates, anyone?

Anyone tried it?

Spinal surgeon David Hanscom and Aussie Physio Lorimer Mosley are good on this topic.

Lot of back issues caused by constant muscular tension due to workplace or general life stress.

There is near zero correlation between slipped discs and back pain.

If youre much older then maybe arthritic issues should be investigated but ultimately strengthening /flexibility is more beneficial for majority.

Pilates and yoga both a good habit to get into.

Simplest exercise to help the core / back if you're in bad shape - suck your belly/core muscles in with effort, in sets, numerous times per day, for ever.

Arnold Press, Overhead press, Lateral Raises, Incline DB Press, Tricep Pull downs, Biceps curls etc plenty of exercises for upper that won't annoy your back.

Physio be a good shout to see what's wrong with the back also - If nothing to serious they'll give you some stretches/bodyweight exercises to build it up.

It's hard to look past press ups for getting the upper body going. Planks as well. With those less likely to tweak things.
