Quote from: TyroneTam on March 18, 2026, 06:47:29 PMIt's impossible to argue against facts, this time last year we were

- incredibly unlucky to get relegated on the largest points total in div 1 history
- had Armagh on the ropes until we threw it away in last minute
- beat the all Ireland finalists in their own back yard
- beat Dublin in the AI QF

This year we are:

- genuinely on the brink of not even being in the all Ireland series.
- Only beat the two teams who are likely to be relegated to Div 3
- appear to have a very unhappy camp

I'm definitely not saying this in a 'get MOR out' way but the trend is incredibly worrying. We look to have no shape, I can't see any discernable game plan, we're giving away horrendous goals, not defending obvious threats (e.g. Meath no12 having the time of his life kicking 2 pointers for the craic) and I could go on.

I'll absolutely be in the athletic grounds convincing myself we've a chance, however, setting aside the emotional brain my logical thoughts are all doom and gloom.

This is a good summary, a remarkable and very concerning drop off during this league campaign. Not going back up not necessarily a problem if we felt players were getting experience and we were building a team but I didn't see much evidence of that, really looked like a side lacking direction. Even with that every one of those games was there for Tyrone and they invariably didn't step up. A very poor effort given the unquestionable talent available.

If the team takes this aimless form into the Championship then there will rightly be serious questions about MOR come the end of the season. Or maybe it's all part of a masterplan and a blistering Championship awaits. Maybe 🤔

Quote from: Topoftheworld on March 22, 2026, 03:08:08 PMIf we do lose to Armagh.. whats the layoff before the first group game is it 6/7 weeks?

There are no group sections this year. It is back door system. Lose 1st back door game and year is over.

Back door will start once games are at provincial final stage so 5/6 weeks after Armagh game

NotedObserver

We are too small around the middle 8.
That will be an issue that needs sorted no matter who is the manager

It's not a back door like the one from a few years ago. 16 teams in the all Ireland. If you lose the first round you go into a back door with the other 8 losers. Lost that and the year is over.

Armagh v Kerry is like a different sport compared to Omagh earlier.

scout

After seeing Armagh-Kerry, If Tyrone are within 10pts of that Armagh side in athletic grounds then it's an achievement.

If you read my post again you will see that I said that - if you lose your first back door game then your season is over, you are out.

Lads, if Armagh beat Tyrone then Tyrone go into losers section - if they lose their first 'back door' game in losers section then they are out - exact same format as Sigerson

Only guaranteed 2 more games unless we beat Armagh then it would be 3. But lose to Armagh and then lose the next game then it is all over..

I don't think you're getting it. Give this a read:
https://www.gaa.ie/article/format-for-2026-all-ireland-sfc-and-tailteann-cup

Lose in round 1 and you go into round 2b. Ulster has no bearing on any back door games.

tyrone08

Lads the fact we are even talking about how many games we might have left before the championship even begins shows how bad we are.

NotedObserver

Okane was dodgy in goals. Kept looking for his shorts but not on and waiting too long on the dropping ball.

Niall Devlin followed Sherlock around and kept him quiet, thought Teague was good except for a cheap give away in the second half. Joey Clarke the pick of them. Chris og jones pace frightening but defence not a unit at all.

Midfield battled well.

Ronan Cassidy was quiet, Seanie started well but faded badly. McCurry looks off the pace. Mattie Donnelly brilliant. The bench v poor impact. Mcelholm could have made a great impact but carried into trouble when the shot was on. Burns sub didn't work an Mckernan shot of confidence

Great summary of a bad day
O'Kane only starting and needs plans to suit him born in training
Joey Clarke excellent prospect battled away; need more determination like his
SO'D really honest but not up to senior county (yet?)
Devlin shaping very well Teague solid. Need a mid park general now Brennan gone.
McCurry 20minute man now on at 45min for McElholm who surely deserves a start.
Jordan trying too hard today missed 4~5 2pt attempts when could have got 1 a couple of times. (How many wides did Tyrone have in 1st half and from where?)
Do not know what to make of McDonnell and Cullen except McDonnell seemed to have a bizarre miss for a goal today after a good move broke up in square).
Darragh C not on form but tried to do too much without a lot of help. What has MOR against McKernan? Bringing him on at 60 min is a farce, who was he on for Jordan? (but McKernan does look a bit flabby but then whole team conditioning is bad as is the dull attitude generally)?
This thing of having the team held on pitch in circle for 2 3 minute sermon from MOR at ht. seems to me more for the crowd than the team.(get them in sit them down and effin sort it!). Looks like 1U and 2Al matchs left for Tyrone this year. If so then whoever signed off on MOR et al needs to act quickly with no hiding place. If it comes to change McGinley seems best option if Horse or Meenagh won't bite. Can't let Tyrone fall into 1980s obscurity but right now AI seems out of question til 2028-9 at best. Will be interesting to see how minors and U20s do in this context (with their brilliant managers!).
