If a county team is getting caught for breaches you really have to ask questions. I know at club level we go spare at them and always have a person on the half way line or thereabouts keeping them right but they are generally good at self managing it.

2 pointers are good in that they reward quality but it is an indictment of the way the game has gone as I am a 50 year old with bad feet and can still kick a ball over the bar from the edge of the arch!  Every forward at county level should be doing it consistently but they don't.

Every free taker should be able to do it but they don't. I suspect they can. Genuine question,  but do free takers just do free taking training?  I am not saying they don't but I know I have to tell lads to do it. It was a matter of course that the like of McConville and Anthony Cunningham did specific free taking drills. 40-50 free kicks a piece in a structured way. With all the stats we have surely you can determine where the core of fouls happen and let your players practice over and over in those spots.

I'm sure boys like Oisin O'Neill and Cian McConville do plenty of free taking practice, yet both have missed frees you'd put money on them nailing in the last few games.

Think the likes of McElroy, Grugan, Forker and especially Aaron McKay are huge losses as leaders on things like keeping 3 up/back, McKay and Grugan especially seem to direct a lot of traffic when they're playing.

Would expect a response at home next week but will be tight going against a  Donegal team that are flying at the minute, hopefully see more of McMullen and Crealey next week.

The breach that resulted in the goal being overturned correctly called too as it turns out.

I don't know when it started to get so bad, but the relentless Armagh whining about referees is getting tiresome. I've a distinct memory of the Clann Eireann-Errigal Ciaran game kicked off a good bit of it.

In fairness that game deserved it. I'm not sure there was too much whining today. I thought there were a lot of strange decisions but I thought they went both ways and didn't impact on the result today.

agree about the CE-EC game. Wasnt at game yesterday so cant comment on the ref one way or the other but the Galway game we lost because we were poor defensively. Our own fault that one; not anyone elses

Was at the game, poor defensively once again and unless improvement is found between now and knock out championship football another 0-32 or more will be conceded when making an exit.

Side note the Hyde Park pitch was in splendid condition for the time of year with lots of rain during the week and shower of hailstones before the match.

figured as much. Conceding 3-18 doesnt suggest a strong defensive performance

naka

was at the game and have to say thought roscommon worked well in the first half, especially ensuring n13 was in space for 2 pointers.
armagh were dreadful in thefirst 35 minutes and very wasteful in the second and all in all felt that Roscommon deserved the victory
people are griping about the ref, he was poor for both sides but didnt cause Armagh to lose save that something has to happen re the kickouts , would say 10 mins wasted in the second half because of delays.
armagh will struggle to get another 2 points unless they get a defence sorted and a kickout strategy that works

Rossfan

It used to be a throw ball on the 20 for delaying kick outs.
Now it's a free leading to Refs wanting to  avoid having to give a tap over.
Obvious thing to do is stop the clock until its kicked.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

hopefully we see McKay and McCambridge back in the not too distant future. Thatll help the defence

Ethan Tremblay

From an Armagh point of view, a disappointing spell in the first half, reminiscent of that 15 mins against Kerry last year that left them too much to do.  To be fair they nearly got back into it, but they need to get cute as to when a team is having their "moment" and kill that momentum.

I agree with McGeeney, forcing the long kickout gives a team less control of the ball, and Armagh struggled with that in the first half, but it makes for a better spectacle and he will have to get used to it, its not going away.

Donegal next week, and they will want to secure their league place and take the foot off the gas, so there will be no letup.

I tend to think of myself as a one man wolfpack...

All of the delays were within the rules I felt. None lasted more than the permitted 30 seconds that I saw and I was keeping a pretty close eye on that.

Think there were 25 or 26 seconds left when we got the last score.

How many steps did  the Donegal player take  before setting up their goal??

Looked like he was  for running  out the gate  with it.

At least 8 or 9

I'd say it was nearer  to 12.

Could understand a  ref letting steps  go if a player was being  tackled, or fouled, but when he's  running like that , unchallenged,  is very poor refereeing.

28 by the clock in the ground which allows the keeper to not have to take the kick out before the hooter.
