Quote from: Milltown Row2 on February 10, 2026, 02:04:02 PMIf ya didn't have a hurling scar by the age of ten, did you hurl at all?

I drive through Ballymena every morning and its great seeing all the boys and girls with the hurls

Great to see, every morning too and more have hurls than dont! 4g pitch covered in bodies in the morning time

Is that going into St. Louis? Do they wear helmets?
I think it's great bringing in hurls. Some primary schools don't allow it I hink. 'Insurance issues' is the problem.
Anybody know of schools allowed to bring in hurls?

Helmets are only required at the ball wall at St Louis.

No requirement for pucing about on the pitch, but I see where you are coming from.

And a good mix of boys and girls bringing their sticks in.

As MR2 said, it is a great sight.

Hopefully some busybody doesn't comment on it and put a stop to it!

In my day, you only brought your stick if you had a match or training.

One, it wouldn't have been popular enough and two, you wouldn't have walked about the town with one as plenty would have objected and you would be inviting trouble.

Timothy Gaston & Gordon Lyons are probably organising a "no hurls in Ballymena" campaign, even as we speak. They've been gathering up the Harryville rent-a-mob, to burn down all the ash trees in Mid & East Antrim.

I'd say it was spicy enough around the old State Cinema bus stop and up at the station back in the 80s and 90s.

Wasn't pretty some days. You knew below the Bandstand beside the Northern Bank was dicey ground.

What one?

SaffronSports

Im assuming its Smaller Fish. Seen a post saying they have Liam Watson on so im assuming after his posts on social media that its not a toast to the work of Davy Fitz. I take it that pod is behind a paywall?

NorthAntrimSaff

Yes smaller fish. Yes there is a fee for it. Its easy to take shots at the team but id only be interested listening to podcasts that featured people who gave full commitment to the jersey

Saffrongael

These southern podcasts getting Winker as a hard hitting pundit will surely end in tears, good hurler but not near wise
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

paddyjohn

How was his coaching career in Lavey rated?

Tony Baloney

You'll see some of Winker's contribution on the Smaller Fish account on Twitter.
