Heard  a rumour at the weekend which I thought was a bit far fetched tbh but I see the Gaelic Life is posting it too  that Slaughtneil are set to appoint Austin O'Malley as their new coach

More money than sense, a club that has lost the run of itself in their desperation to win one final championship for their special group of older players. I hope they aren't planning to run a ticket draw in the next five years as I won't be purchasing to pay for that. There neighbours have appointed an Armagh man, surely S'neil could have found someone within an hours drive. Even better you would think after making their way into winning championships from 2004 they would have someone internally who knows football at this stage.

What does it matter if it takes the manager 1 hour, 2 hour or 3 hours to get there if he has said he can do it?

Runs a successful business and is maybe in the north a couple days of days a week, so maybe only 1 long days travelling a week.

Your either against outside managers our you aren't IMO, you can't be on for outside managers as long as the manager is only driving 1 hour to take the session.

I wouldn't worry about travel for Austin, he's played for 4 different clubs so if travels too much for him he'll soon jump. 🫣🫣.

All joking aside I've no issue with Slaughneil throwing money to get a big name, in the hope of dragging back a championship.

Their members and the commercial backers are ultimately the ones that allowed this to happen and if they're happy why should it concern another club. Sometimes I'd love other clubs and my own to be as ambitious they are.

Every club with any hope of winning Derry SFC is doing the exact same at the minute, Glen, Magherafelt, Newbridge. Its the right time if year to be killing other slate needs wiped clean
