Yes but they had outside coaches. My own club have always had internal managers but they are usually not coaches so they hire in some expertise in that area. Has worked well at times.
I'm not a fan of paid Managers but I'm a realist and sometimes you have to appoint the best man. Players demand and expect this.

But who decides on what the 'best man' is?

Experience, track record, player feedback. It' not hard to measure against the inside man. Players have a lot of power these days and increasingly they are involved in the selection process. Players in my own club have actually gone out looking a manager in the past.

My issue with that is the amount of 'managers' who are moving from one club to the next, to the next, year after year....and haven't improved a team a bit. Just on the circuit.

This is what I mean by who decides?

The senior players and/or committee.

Regardless, does that manager make your team better or is it just because he was with X last year and Y the year before.

Of there are 10 paid outside managers in division 1 how many have actually won anything as a manager? 1 or 2 ?

To be fair I'm pretty sure they've all won championships and/or leagues elsewhere. (Or an all Ireland in Pete McGraths case!)

There's a few in division 2 that haven't done too much to justify big bucks though.

I would be shocked if anyone in division 3 is getting paid.

Wat does Toal done well at Lisburn and Paddies mean ?
Casidy did well mean ?

You seem to know the circuit better than me
Are more clubs using their own people again fro your summary ? Wising up hopefully

Toal left both Paddies and Lisburn in a better place than he found them

It's pretty obvious what "done well" means
Are these two circuit men? 😂

Cassidys glenravel team that won promotion to D1 and I think they lost to the now county champions in the intermediate final, and in my opinion have probably been the best team to have played in D2 over the last 4/5 years both pre  and post league restructuring. After cassidy left, They haven't really progressed as far up D1 as they would have hoped, but they still have a lot of good young players coming through.

Knux took over a paddies team that hadnt won a game in 2 seasons. Brought us to 3 championship  semi finals, boosted our league position  and did a lot of the groundwork which lead to our league win this year. The change in lisburn over 2 years was unbelievable. From relegation certainties, to finishing in top half comfortably both seasons. Beat st Paul's twice in their promotion year and only for a shambolic referee should  have beaten Moneyglass in the championship despite playing  45 minutes down to 14 with a chunk  of that down to 13 men. Moneyglass  scoring 1-2 in injury time to win by 6 put a bit of gloss on the scoreline.

I would agree that both have "done well"

You tell them Tommy.

It's not an easy gig, ya can't just rock up and take a team, some clubs just don't have the personnel within just to do the basics..

Players are demanding a lot more from the managers nowadays

Nutrition at training
Strength conditioning
Tailored session
Gym sessions
Challenge games outside of their county
Varied training sessions weekly
Previous success, proven track record

Joe Soap who sits at the bar after the game giving his tuppence worth about what he'd do knows Jack shit on actually doing it.

As I said, not everyone has the level of commitment, dedication and time to provide some of the things above..

So good luck to those that take it on board
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

Defitely not tommy!  ;D With us, it was just the right time. After 3 years it felt like a different voice was needed for the team to kick on. From my  view Lisburn probably over achieved over the 2 years and have a solid base to push on and maybe best to get out while on an upward curve and test yourself with a more established D1 team.

Did sars manager step down, after winning promotion?

Yeah. Paddy made the decision well before the intermediate final. It has been advertised online twice.

Yeah saw it advertised, just thought he'd stay on in division one. Maybe he thinks a new voice is needed.
