Quote from: Milltown Row2 on October 13, 2025, 10:56:10 AMHaven't looked back at the game tbf, so if I'm wrong that's on me but how I seen it was...

Three penalties were probably on reflection soft enough. The first one I did seek clarification on it being inside, player was impeded when about to shoot, so if its a free on the halfway line its a free in the square.

The Pat Shivers one was close, but, his jersey was being pulled outside but continued inside and that was why I gave it, had the Dunloy player let go once inside then it would have been a free not a penalty

Again people will see it differently and that is fine.

On the game, wow its hard to understand the pace the Dunloy lads have in attack. Their fight for the ball, the transition from defense to attack and the two pointers.. Cargin were probably a little more tense than normal and didn't take on scores that they normally would, keeping the scoreboard ticking as the say will generally tally up and before you know the other team is chasing the game.

Before yesterday there wasn't too many saying Cargin were or are a beaten force, I think Cargin will win more championships for sure, maybe even next year as the 'others' this year have been poor enough and not sure another year of training and new managers will bring them on..

As for lads playing both for the county can't see that, its about committing to one for the county and trying your best for the club, and not a dig at were we are footballing terms, but lining up against the Kilkenny's in Hurling to Leitrim in football, its not a difficult choice personally speaking of course

If I was from Dungiven I'd say "hi sir, fair play"

In what sense? They were crap before it and continued to be crap after it.

The scoreline flattered Cargin. Dunloy brought their A game, their big players stood up. Direct play(kicking and running) tore Cargin a new one!

All the penalties awarded were justified IMHO. Ref made correct decisions.

Could / should have given another early doors for 2 obvious infringements  in dunloys square before the game's first score.

DMK not Cargin's lucky charm. They've been knocked out of  the championship just twice in 8 years.....both on his watch.

Fair play for coming on to explain decisions

Take the Mark

Congratulations to Dunloy, the better team on the day won - no complaints here.

Ref done fairly well too, credit where its due.

Cargin will be back again, and again.

Big question today is are the Dunloy boys on it or not?

I would hope so. They deserve it. Big congrats to all in Dunloy. Worthy champions. It was never in doubt on Sunday.
Cargin have been great champions but were very poor on Sunday and I wonder is it re-build time for them?
The way Dunloy play with that all out direct hurling style, they will test anyone in Ulster.

What can I say other than a massive well done to Dunloy. Who could argue as they came through St Brigids, Portglenone then finished it off with an A1 performance against Cargin. For us just about regrouping, could naturally loss a few of the older heads but next year we will be back competing, the work done at youth level the last 10-20 years will ensure that. All we have left is the u21s and we have a strong team that will take some beating with no other distractions.
Good luck to the Cuchullains in Ulster

You'd like to think so. They've a mighty head start on the Derry champions here. Drink the bit out this week then back to work next week while the Derry lads are on it. Might even get an extra week if Slaughtneil have appealed and get a replay.

Amazing and refreshing final performance from Dunloy, and so very much deserved. I must admit, my minds eye momentarily wandered to them in our semi final against Cargin when it looked as though we would be going through. It was a nervy daydream, as on the form they showed I doubt ourselves (nor many others within the county) would have coped.

Cargin will no doubt re-group and be in the mix regardless of who steps aside next year. With hopefully ourselves and the liklihood of st brigids, portglenone - and potentially even a st galls or ballymena to challenge, it would be a cracker Antrim championship.

Hopefully Dunloy are as direct and gung-ho in Ulster. They have every chance. Best of luck.

i have to admit, i never thought in my time id see us win the senior football championship. Hurling is the main focus for us and has been for years now since we won our first title in 1990.

What's helped now is a bit of joined up thinking in the club between the two codes. For a long time it didn't happen and it hinder us from winning an intermediate title. Its no surprise when they did sit down and sort out the schedules and trainings that they lifted that title against Glenravel.

Cargin are the top dogs of Antrim football and to beat a team like them is some achievement for ourselves. I don't even remember the last time we beat Cargin in so much as a league match.

Who knows what Ulster holds

With a reserve championship win Cargin certainly favourites at u21.

Any sign of dates for this competition before we turn attention to the Smyth's Christmas catalogue?
